A Self Reflection

In this semester of English 110 I think I have learned a lot about the process of writing. I have understood that writing is an art which should be perfected gradually and it is not easy to achieve perfection in any form of writing suddenly and without any previous experience. By going through the writing assignments in this particular semester I came across some specific difficulties which hindered my writing processes. While writing my original papers I experienced short of vocabulary, experienced problem in incorporating the elements of persuasion, and even experienced difficulties in expanding my ideas in an appropriate manner. In course of completing my original papers I also found that grammatical mistakes were occurring recurrently and those mistakes made me realize that to accomplish perfection in writing, practice is needed immensely. Practice makes man perfect and this universal proverb is applicable thoroughly in the realm of different forms of writing. And as I did realize the aforesaid truth, in this particular semester I started embracing the habit of writing more and more on both relevant and irrelevant topics. Moreover, such writings helped me a lot to detect my own flaws and this in turn paved the way for me to find out for ways to do away with those follies.

Moreover, while revising my original writings, I had been faced with some specific difficulties. Primarily, I did face the difficulty of accepting the truth that there can be mistakes in my original writings. It is a truth that every writer thinks that their writing, which they compose with efforts, is perfect. And as they think so, it becomes difficult to start finding mistakes within those writings. Being a writer, I too, initially felt embarrassed to discover mistakes in my writings. But with the help of my professors I did learn to accept my mistakes and did learn how to proof read the original writings and revise according to the comments given my professors in respect of my original writings. Furthermore, I must admit that in this particular semester, unlike the previous

semesters, I have gradually turned myself to be critic of my own writings and this has helped me a lot in correcting the mistakes committed in all the original writings that were related to specific assignments.

In this semester I have gradually grown as a writer. Thanks to my professors and my classmates, I have learned more on how to conduct proper researches and how to avoid plagiarism by properly crediting the authors of the information incorporated within my original writings. As a writer, in this particular semester, I have learned the need of mastering the art of persuasion. I have learned that persuasion is one of those important elements of writing which is not only going to help me in my academic life but it is an element, learning the proper use of which can also help me a lot in my future professional life. I, as a writer, in this semester, have learned how to avoid redundancy in my writing, how to be specific, and how to adhere to the principle of logical progression in my writings.

I must confess that in this semester I have been able to overcome some specific challenges and have realized that there are still some other challenges to overcome. I have overcome the challenge of formulating a good thesis statement but am waiting to win over the challenge of composing a brief yet explicit conclusion. In this semester I have been successful in giving up the habit of making spelling and grammatical mistakes but I am still trying to prepare myself to avert from committing mistakes like shirking proof-reading and reading my writings again and again after completion to look into whether or not any flaw has been committed within the entire writing.
