Due in week 1

Course Project: Topic Proposal

REQUIRED Sections:

· Select a brand. Tell us a little about your company and it's current situation.

· Describe the brand and underlying brand concept (for example, the brand concept for Disney has been described as "family magic"—every product, service, and promotional tool must fit with this).

· What is the brand problem that needs to be solved (e.g., increase awareness)? This can be a single problem, a group of issues, and/or what all you think that you can improve upon and why.

· Target market—what is the profile of the typical customer (demographics, lifestyle, usage pattern)? DO NOT SAY "EVERYONE", pick specific group(s) and justify why.

Important Grading Notes/Requirements: - Minimum 2 pages in length and be sure to subtitle each section in your paper by the above requirements (i.e., Brand, Description & Brand Concept, Problem(s), & Target Market(s)). This is how professional reports are written as well as clearly indicates that you are addressing each required line item. - Target markets do NOT include "everyone" as even the most general products/services are marketed to specific target groups (largest sub-markets, profitability, ease of reach, specific objectives, potential for growth, and so on). Moreover, defining specific target market(s) will give you the foundation to later propose specific objectives, message strategies, media plans, & artwork. - Select a company/brand that you can build a comprehensive IMC plan around; overly simple topics will not give you much to work with later on. - While you may select a brand with a "problem(s)" that you can fix, it is most important to make your company selection based on what you can build and/or improve upon. While your selected company will provide a foundation for you to write about, and you may incorporate some of their current marketing activities, the major thrust of this course long project will be to develop and add YOUR OWN ideas and plans! So keep this in mind while selecting your topic - Points will be awarded based on your ability to comprehensively address each of the required sections in your report, demonstrate our course concepts from our readings, thread discussions, and other course material and, write a professional looking report.
