Dance observation
The first dance observation is the Wheeldon’s Cinderella, which is under the San Francisco Company. The dancers are authentic in their moves, and more so their techniques are made to resemble the Cinderella. The San Francisco company is known for its prowess in dancing, and this dance made the company famous. The choreographer is Christopher Wheeldon, and he may be said to have done a great work in achieving the features of the dance. In this dance, energy is portrayed, and the dancers seem to be knowing their moves.
The dancers had amazing costumes, which made them unique. In addition, the main dancer had a dress, which was made to resemble that of Cinderella. More so, the costumes gave the performance a romantic theme, which is not considered to be easy to attain. When dancing, the dancers were in uniform and more so they had equal intervals between them. The shapes that were formed seemed to be imaginative and to be honest the choreographer is said to have done an amazing work. In a situation where there was repetition, it was handled in such a manner that the audience would not know and thus the dance is said to be unique.
Choreographers are known to use different methods, different combinations, and different styles, and this results in a non-narrative approach. However, in this case, Christopher used the same styles methods and combinations, this made the ballet dance to be informed of a narrative. Starting from the costumes the romantic approach all this made the dance attain a narrative form. This achieved two aspects entertainment, and the intended message was delivered.
The choreographer attained the full intent; this is because of the costumes, the dance flow, and the great light staging. Besides, the intervals were uniform, and due to this, the dance was entertaining. In addition, his communication of the message was effective due to the costumes and the dance styles. Moreover, the costumes and the dancers fulfilled their part, and since the choreographer trained them, he can be said to have fulfilled his intent.
In conclusion, this dance was one of the unique dances that I have attended. In addition, the narration was delivered, and therefore it achieved both purposes. In addition, the dance can be used for class purposes, many factors can be learned to start from the costumes to the uniformity of the dance and the setting. Therefore, I can recommend it to my classmates.
Dance Observation
In this case, we shall use the performance of Houston Ballet and be more specific The Nutcracker. The performance involves various classical techniques, and the dance moves as well as the expected energy. In this dance, the Houston Company became transformed after the performance of this dance. It has attained prestige and more so it has been among the leading ballet companies. The choreographer of the dance is Stanton Welch who is said to have assumed leadership.
The main dancers wore costumes which made them outstanding, the other crew members were also attractive and therefore the dance was more than I expected. The space interval between the members was just equal, and this helped attain uniformity, on the other hand, the shapes that they formed were curvy, and this was attained by following the rhythm of the music. In a situation of repetition the dance by the main dancers was repeated, and due to this then uniformity and the flow of the moves seemed easy. The lighting of the stage was not bad either and due to this then the atmosphere created was a convenient one.
Various choreographers combine different methods and therefore, in this case, the due to the different combinations, and it fails to sustain the aspect of narration. What I mean is that the dance does not appear to be a narrative but instead it is a non-narrative. Out of that then the choreographer may not be in a position to have allowed the medium movement to be the message. However but when it comes to entertainment, the dance achieves all that.
According to me, the choreographer fulfilled his intent the dance flow was more than what I expected, and more so the costumes were uniform not forgetting the intervals and also the shape of the curves. However according to me, the communication aspect was not successful, this is because the message was not conveyed to the audience. As the name suggest, the dance would have brought out the aspect of the Nutcracker but that was not fully attained. When it comes to the dancers, they were technical and proficient.
In conclusion, comparing this dance with other performances, it is one of my bests, and therefore I may relate it to class. It connects to the dance history since almost all aspects are obeyed including the factor of forming the dance moves. Especially when they form various shapes and observing the uniformity, the dance becomes appealing. Out of this, I would recommend the dance to others since it is more than just a performance.
