Starting and operating a new business venture carries a considerable amount of risk. However, a methodical, concerted approach to opportunity analysis affords ventures to leverage their proficiency to reduce the risk of opportunity development.
The business venture that will be commencing in Pittsburgh is Mobile MRI and CAT Scans (MMCS). The product will be the mobile imaging devices that will travel around the country with radiologists and imaging technicians. These systems will be self-contained in a trailer on the back of a commercial hauling truck. These trailers are equipped with an entire radiology team as well as HVAC, electrical and other systems such as backup generators. These systems can either connect to local power or be self-standing.
The mobile MRI and CAT Scans is an effective way to add additional imaging devices to an existing radiology department without large capital investments. Radiology departments with fixed imaging systems are a costly investment. This is a mechanism where clients can test a market without the large initial investment costs in an untapped location.
In this business venture, our prospective market is diverse and hugely distinct from conventional imaging systems as a result of the flexibility and wider reach. In addition, the expertise of the imaging technicians and radiologists travel with the device. Clients can have our systems on premises for short-term or long-term durations. Traditional fixed imaging systems require real estate and a brick and mortar building as well as facilities systems such as HVAC and electrical. All of this travels with our MMCS systems. Another advantage to the MMCS system over the traditional fixed systems is that repairs and preventative maintenance are performed more efficiently, which results in less downtime. Planned or unscheduled downtime is handled by a new system being delivered to replace the existing one while it is being repaired or maintained.
Pittsburgh is an excellent choice for our business because of how advanced it is in the medical field. The outlook for jobs look very promising and as a team, we are confident that we will be more than successful. The recent job growth in Pittsburgh is currently 1.44% compared to the United States average of 1.18% (Sperlings Best Places, 2016). Pittsburgh also listed the future job growth statistic at 38.10%, which projects the next 10 years. Not only does that include the medical field, but job growth as a whole in Pittsburgh (Sperlings Best Places, 2016). The more people in the area, the better our business will thrive. Starting a business such as mobile MRI and CAT scans in Pittsburgh we have the opportunity to work closely with world-renowned facilities such as UPMC and Allegheny Health Network. Our team would add more competition to the already high work population of 7.51% healthcare practitioners and 3.08% healthcare support workers (Sperlings Best Places, 2016). Although the numbers make it look as though it is a tough environment to begin, we will use our mobility and versatility to set ourselves apart and creating the benchmark for others to follow. Our product is unique and all encompassing.
