Professional Development Plan
I. Plan
Introduction:
The learning plan featured within this paper will cover various instructional strategies that teachers will put into use in the upcoming academic school year (Wang & Thomas, 1996). This learning plan supports our vision through support of ongoing teacher development, collaboration and a commitment to continuously improve daily practices. Our focus on teacher development is to enhance the ultimate goal – improved learning results for our students. In addition, we hope that we will experience the added benefits of job satisfaction, being the go-to school in the district for innovation and best practices, retention and recruiting. This plan will help give us direction for the coming year.
School/Organization Vision:
The HRC Elementary School team will work with parents and the community to educate and equip our students of all backgrounds and learning abilities with 21-century skills while achieving mandated standards. With an eye to the future, we will encourage and raise the achievement of all students thus preparing them for a smooth transition to higher education or the workforce.
Professional Development Vision/Goal:
The HRC Elementary School will strive to maintain our strong culture by providing resources and programs that engage the staff in continuous professional development that is designed to promote the success of all students. Through an environment of teamwork and collaboration, all staff will have opportunities to increase knowledge, improve performance, and enhance professional growth.
School/Organization Guiding Principles:
We strive for excellence every day and in every way, therefore we are:
Committed to teamwork
Committed to collaboration
Committed to transparency and open communication
Committed to inclusion and diversity
Committed to continuous learning
Committed to showing mutual respect and holding one another accountable
II. Implementation of Professional Learning Standards – This is where I left off. In this section, you will designate how all seven Standards for Professional Learning will be implemented. Explain your ideas for each of the seven standards as well as how they align with the 21st Century Professional Development Standards, the Federal (NCLB) standards, and your respective state’s professional development standards. To do this, you must conduct research online to find your respective state’s professional development standards. For example, you can search for “Your state” professional development standards or “Your state” Department of Education to find the needed information. Next, access each of the above links and determine which, if not all, align with the seven standards listed below.
Standards - Learning Communities: Continuous improvement, collective responsibility/ decision making and goal alignment.
Standards -Leadership : Skillful leaders who develop capacity, advocate, and create support systems for professional learning. Needs to support distributive leadership.
Standards - Resources : Prioritizing, monitoring, and coordinating resources for educator learning.
