MAN 4720 Fortune 500 Global Project Grading

Project Requirements

To give you further insight into the strategic management process, students are required to complete a Fortune 500 global project as a practical application of the concepts discussed in each chapter. Each individual will select a Fortune 500 company (see the Fortune 500 document in the class library), and research, analyze, and document how that company performs each of the topics discussed in each chapter of the text, and then develop recommendations on how they should move forward. The compilation will result in how that company builds its strategy, and what that strategy is. The total document must not exceed 3 pages of text, plus as many appendices (charts, graphs, analyses, etc.) as you want.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you DO NOT plagiarize either a prior published work or your fellow students work. You MUST quote and/or cite your work accordingly. Wikipedia, informal blog postings, other students’ analyses, etc. are not considered legitimate sources. Failure to properly cite your sources will result in a full letter grade deduction for the project.

Introduction (10 Points)

Tip: Describe the company such as detail its history, growth, organizational structure.

10 – Thorough description of company with specific key details of the history, growth, or organizational structure.

7 – Partial description of company that misses key details of the history, growth, or organizational structure.

4 – Poorly structured paragraph where introduction to the company lacks major details.

0 – No introduction section.

Internal Analysis (15 Points)

Tip: Based upon the information you have gathered conduct a SWOT analysis, identified and analyzed the resources of the company and core competencies. What competitive advantages does the internal structure yield?

15 – Thorough internal analysis that contains all the important components.

10 – Satisfactory internal analysis, but missing 1 or 2 important components or 1 or 2 areas of vague analysis.

5 – Unsatisfactory internal analysis, with many missing components necessary for a thorough internal analysis.

0 – No internal analysis section.

External Analysis (15 Points)

Tip: Based upon the information you have gathered conduct a PESTEL analysis, competition, and industry.

15 – Thorough external analysis that contains all the important components.

10 – Satisfactory external analysis, but missing 1 or 2 important components or 1 or 2 areas of vague analysis.

5 – Unsatisfactory external analysis, with many missing components necessary for a thorough external analysis.

0 – No external analysis section.

Corporate Strategy (25 Points)

Tip: Have you identified their industry, the value chain, or the level of diversification? What is their method of growth?

25 – Thorough exploration of the company’s corporate strategy that contains specific details.

16 – Satisfactory exploration of the company’s corporate strategy. Missing specific details in a few areas.

8 – Unsatisfactory exploration of the company’s corporate strategy. Vague information on the corporate strategy or missing specific details in several areas.

0 – No corporate strategy section.

Business Level Strategy (25 Points)

Tip: Do they focus on unique value or low cost? Discuss their business level strategy. Discuss their approach to innovation?

25 – Thorough exploration of the company’s business level strategy that contains specific details.

16 – Satisfactory exploration of the company’s business level strategy. Missing specific details in a few areas.

Global Level Strategy (15 Points)

Tip: Discuss their global reach. Their global strategy method. Their approach to local customization and cost containment.

Tip: Based upon what you know of the company suggest a plan for the future direction of the company and justify your recommendation. From the recommendations, clearly state the expected results for the company.
