An Abstract of

North Gateway Project

Senior Technology Capstone

The University of Toledo

Problem: The recent demolition of the White, Dowd, and Nash residence halls has

created an opportunity for construction in a prime location at the most northwestern

corner of campus.

Solution: Project Team A-3 has proposed retail and restaurant shops be built on the

existing site to help give the campus and surrounding communities a social and

community gathering spot.

Method: Team A-3 started using brainstorming methods to decide what ideas would best

be implemented in the new open space. The best ideas were chosen and AutoCAD,

Autodesk Revit, 3D models, Microsoft Project, and Ecotect were used to develop the

ideas into a clear concise visual representation.

Results: The produced design plans of building foundations, floor plans of the restaurants

and retail shops, and final renderings of the buildings show the final product.

Conclusion: The proposed buildings will repurpose an unoccupied area with innovative

design, student and community accommodations, and an “up-tempo” atmosphere. This

new space will bring the campus and surrounding communities together at one

centralized social hub.
