Jane the Tutor Summary
Age category has become an important tool for many lines of social sciences research on the interplay of emotion, social interactions and entertainment activities among the youths. As people age, their participation in entertainment activities also change due to shifts in preferences, constraints, abilities, and health among other factors. These changes occur in many ways — the specific activities a person does, the procedures to accomplish them, frequency, duration and interests. Specified briefly, these features are what, how, how often, and how long one participates in an entertainment activity.
Previous studies have shown that the choice of destination is not only influenced by the amount of money available to spend on a the holiday but also on individual preferences, which may range from gaining new experiences, seeing new cultures, enjoying a different climate or spending time relaxing. And thus emotional connotation which refers to the associations that are connected to a certain word or the emotional suggestions related to that word, to a larger extent influences the choice of entertainment and leisure activities and destinations.
A survey of 248 full time students at Arizona State University who are US citizens between the age of 18 and 30 years who filled a 4 page questionnaire and the results of this survey was used in analyzing the intended attributes and variables. The questionnaire sought to evaluate the choice of the holiday destination of the three European countries: France, Spain and the UK based on; the availability of entertainment and leisure activities and the emotional connotation grouped as luxury, trendy, exotic, clean, and safe against the two age categories. The respondents were required to use a 5-point scale (1-Strongly disagree, 3-Mixed agree disagree, 5-Strongly agree) to choose the best scale for each of the questions. The demographic variables and the social attributes cross-tabulated with the five-point Likert scale and the destination (country) were presented in tables and graphs and the results are discussed as below.
Of the 248 students sampled, xx (XX %) were female as compared to the YY (YY %) males. As shown below in the graph 1. Age Distribution of Respondents students aged between 18 to 21 years old comprised of the largest percent of respondents (63.7%) with the remainder 36.3% being aged between 22 and 30 years.
