Proposal

I want to talk and discuss about the film Lone Survivor (2013) for my final paper. Lone Survivor is a war film, written and directed by Peter Berg in 2013. The movie was adapted from the real experience of the United States Navy SEALs. In 2005, the leader of SEALs teams Michael Murphy and his team members were tasked to carry out secret mission, which kill the Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. The Taliban’s ambush kills them, and only Michael had survived. Because they let shepherds who discovered them, they encountered the killing. The film shows the SEALs brotherhood because all four people willing to pay for their lives for other people. In addition, audiences can know that everywhere will has good people because a Afghan village citizens was saved their life.

So in my paper, I want to discuss about patriotism, morality and war’s cruelty. First, everyone is imbued with feeling of patriotism although he or she feels scared and wrong about war. Once, when people choose their position, they will not hesitate to stand in their country. As long as the problems or issues is involves with country although it is turbulence, everyone will be together because of patriotism. In the movie, all team members are the most rigorous selection of Special Forces soldiers, so their sacrifices look more tragic and regret, but also audiences will pay attention about their patriotism and the United States’ heroism. Second, the morality is always a main point for war. In the movie, there is a main irony. All team was killed because they let Afghans go who discovered them; on the other hand, another Afghan was saved their life. Thus, there are some questions about human’s values and morality. Because Afghan was treated terrorist by American, audiences will see that the kind terrorists who were saved American soldier’s life. Therefore, I want to discuss how audience will think or evaluate this argument. Third, the war is cruel, and the last survivor is lonely. Marcus lost all his brothers, and he carry on all brothers life. Perhaps, he would be grateful, but he could not forget this situation and the confession. The film not just shows people the fact, but also lets people know some problems, truths and meaning about war.
