“Bad Behavior at the Movies”
Some people have had enough and have completely stopped going to the movies. They have not stopped because they dislike the movies. But because they dislike the rude moviegoers. Who ruin their experience. One big problem is irritating cell phone use. There are also problems with noise. And with sharing the theater space with strangers. All these issues can make going to the movies seem like more trouble than it is worth.
Cell phones cause all sorts of problems. In movie theaters as well as other places. People are told to turn off their phones. But do not always do so. Loud cell phone conversations can be infuriating. To people who want to hear the movie. When a phone rings during an important scene in the movie. It is especially annoying. Some moviegoers even complain that bright text message screens distract them. From the movie. Of course, theaters could use jammers. To block all cell phone signals. Unfortunately, they would also block incoming emergency calls.
Noise in the movies also comes from other souces. Such as crying babies. People pay money to watch a movie. Not to listen to some baby screaming for food or water. They also don’t expect to be slapped, kicked, or punched by some little kid. With food on his face in the next seat. Crinkling candy wrappers are also annoying. In addition, some moviegoers insist on talking to each other. During the movie. In fact, they may make watching a movie an interactive event. Talking to the actors and telling them what they should do next. If they have seen the movie before, they may recite lines of dialogue before the actors do. Spoiling the suspense for everyone else. I especially enjoy that. Sometimes people even talk loudly about subjects. That have nothing to do with the movie. In all these cases, the noise is a problem. For anyone who is serious about film and wants to watch the movie and hear the actors on the screen.
Finally, going to the movies requires sharing the theater with other people. Who are neither relatives nor friends. Unfortunately, many people behave in a movie theaters the same way they behave at home. When they are watching television. They may put their feet up on the seats in front of them. Making it impossible for others to sit there. Movie goers become very annoyed if someone sits right in front of them. And blocks their view of the screen.
