Description of Assignment:
Task 1: Research and then write a report of 800 words to your manager, explaining the main forms of communication used in the workplace. In your findings compare and contrast how they are used in order to communicate effectively. ( AC 1.1, AC3.1, AC3.2)
With reference to the above task your report should include: · Oral & written, formal and informal, electronic and hard copy and any others from research. · Explain where they are used and how they are used to help to communicate effectively
Your report should be structured formally and should contain the following: · An abstract ( a summary of what is in the report – one paragraph) · Terms of Reference ( Here you should say that the report is to inform the manager about communication improvement) · Procedure ( Methods used to collect the facts/data for the findings – say in a paragraph what/which sources you used and why) · Findings ( Use this section to compare and contrast different forms of communication to show what your sources say) · Discussion ( your views based on your findings of the best ways to communicate in business) · Conclusion ( summary of the findings in your own words) · Recommendations (What your manager should do to make sure communication is effective · Appendices · References.
Task 2: For this task you will need to conduct secondary research and create a list of barriers to effective communication in a range of businesses. For each barrier you should give and explain at least one relevant example. Then, in a table of evidence as outlined below, you should give recommendations for preventing communication barriers and suggest how they could be eliminated.( AC2.1)
You should present your work in a table with the headings “Barrier”, “Example” “Explanation” and “Measures to eliminate” across the top of the page.
Task 3: You will be shown a video of a bad business meeting and a second video of good business meeting advice. You should use both of these video recordings to make notes and then to discuss with the whole group:- 1. What makes for a good business meeting and 2. What makes for a bad meeting.
Ineffective Meeting
Good Meeting Advice
You should then use the discussion notes to compare and contrast the good and the bad factors which can ‘make or break’ a business meeting, write this up and submit in note form. You should then create an agenda for a student and staff meeting, explain the purpose of the agenda and the minutes for a business meeting; detailing why both are considered important for meetings and subsequent action point follow up by students and staff. ( 4.1, 4.2).
