Aging is a natural process that comes with a cost. It is normal and evident that this
process poses a great challenge for all in the society. Chronologically it refers to those with 65
years and above, and these are the people who have a high prevalence of chronic diseases or
even mental illnesses. The Americans despise the old, and this is usually evident in the media.
The old are portrayed as weak, comic and indecisive. However this notion is incorrect because
the old usually have imminent knowledge which can’t be found in the younger generation.
Therefore it is important for the government, the citizens and important stakeholders in the
country to come up with policies, measures, and assistance to ensure that these people live longer
because, in the country at individual levels, they are iconic and very beneficial.
The Administration on Aging (AOA) is an agency within the US Department of Health
and Human Services designated to carry the activities aimed to cater for the welfare of the old
people. According to the United States & United States (1971), the AOA is assigned a mandate
of promoting the well-being of older individuals. It provides services and programs designed to
help them to live independently in their residing premises and their homes. The agency also
offers financial support to persons who are above the age of 60 years. The AOA also provides
home based and community-based services to seniors regarding adult day care, transport, and
health promotion programs.
The government is always in the frontline in ensuring that the welfare of the old people is
taken care of. Therefore the government gives financial assistance to them because at their age;
they are not working, and therefore they don’t earn any income. The financial support delegated
to them helps them in important life aspects, (Sines et al, 2005). The finance they are given will
assist them in payment of bills like the heating bills, medication and also nutrition. With all the
above favorable conditions, the life span of the old individuals will increase.

Family members and the general community are the nearest parties that are accessible to
the old. Both play a significant role in caring for the elderly parents by ensuring that they are in
access to good health care, handling legal questions and ensuring that they find the right living
situation. Talking to them is an efficient way to know what they want their wishes and the
available options. It gives them an assurance that support will always be on the way when they
need it. According to Harrington & Estes. (2008), danger signals should be used by family and
community members to know when these people require any help. These may include general
forgetfulness, sudden weight loss or even failure to take medication and overdosing themselves.
Distance can be a hindrance between family members, (Harrington, C., & Estes, C. L.
2008). They should take appropriate measures that ensure that they can coordinate for the proper
being of their old family members regardless of the distance that separates them. First, they can
set up an alarm that they can call and summon for immediate help. Also, they can manage the
doctor and medical appointments to ensure that they never miss. They can also hire a case
manager who will coordinate your loved one’s care manage bills and communicate to the family.
Private institutions can offer care for the old, although they do it at a higher cost. The
private institutions usually offer attractive and high-quality services. In this case, the interested
parties should use the social security and medical assistance to obtain the services of these
institutions which will ensure that they take care of their old members.
The old, as we have seen are very important. Therefore every person should put a hand to
ensure that their welfare is desirable, and by this, they will live longer Their experience, wisdom
and knowledge are crucial and they can impart it to the young people and thus ensure smooth
continuity of the whole community. However, on their part, the old individuals themselves

States (1971), physical exercises stimulate the mind and the body barring unnecessary ailments.
Lack of activities is the primary cause of obesity in old people, and they also tend to overuse
alcohol and medicine such as painkillers and this negative impact on their general body health
