in some way demonstrate that you were in the classroom the last few weeks… an easy way to do this would be to incorporate points from our guest speaker’s presentation while you write about Dorothy Day.
Citation Instructions
If you’re citing a course text, simply indicate the text’s author and the page number. You can do it at the end of the quote/paraphrase in parentheses like this: (Augustine, 28). Or you can place it in a footnote as I’ve done here.[footnoteRef:1] [1: Augustine, 28.]
If you want to cite a specific quote that you jotted down from class, indicate that you’re citing your notes and provide the date that the notes were taken: (Class notes, 11-15-16). You can put those in a footnote too if you’d prefer.
Remember that the quotes are supposed to support your own arguments… you want to guide the paper along in your own words and then back up your own words with well-placed quotes. When you use a direct quote, be sure to frame it in your own words so that it’s clear why you think that quote is important!
If you have ANY questions about citations, please ask me before turning in your paper. Anything that remotely resembles plagiarism will not be tolerated, especially at this point in the semester!
