Assignment 2.1: Policemen of the World Thesis and Outline

Name

Strayer University

Instructions: Delete my headings and all the instructions I have typed. Make sure to remove the highlights.

Introduction Paragraph (Delete all of my specific instructions)

Place your introduction paragraph here. Provide a general overview of your topic. End with your thesis statement as your last sentence. Please underline your thesis statement. This intro should give an overview of your main assertion for the paper. For example (and you can choose to follow my suggested thesis here if you want): During the twentieth century the United States have become the "policemen" of the world through international incidents such as (then list your two chosen incidents here) and through changes in foreign policy after World War II.

Outline (delete my explanations and placeholder instructions and replace with the content)

I. Three International Events from the past five years that can be traced back to a foreign policy created after the Civil War - Note - This means international events the U.S. has been involved in during the last few years: Think about Iraq, Egypt, Israel=Palestine, Russia etc. Don't just list countries. Put the actual issue/event specifically.

A. First one you will discuss goes here and list the foreign policy it can be traced back to

B. Second one you will discuss goes here and list the foreign policy it can be traced back to

C. Third one you will discuss goes here and list the foreign policy it can be traced back to

II. Three Aspects of U.S. history since 1865 that has led to the U.S.'s rise as a world super power police (Be specific - not just economic, political, and geographic - but specific economic aspects or geographic aspects etc. This means - what are some major reasons WHY the U.S. became a super power..major factors that led to the rise of power)

A. First aspect goes here

B. Second aspect goes here

C. Third aspect goes here

III. Five ways international incidents since World War II where American has taken on a policing role. (Here you should be thinking of incidents, wars, peace talks etc. where the U.S. has helped police another country or helped guide them to peace etc. Do not just put the country name here. For example, don't put Vietnam..say Vietnam War. Don't just put Iraq or Afghanistan - the U.S. has done several policing actions in those countries so be specific on the action. In addition, please list these in chronological order.

A. First event goes here

B. Second event goes here

C. Third event goes here

D. Fourth event goes here

E. Fifth event goes here

IV. Five driving forces that fueled international policy decisions involving the international incidents you outlined previously (consider treaties, exit strategies, elections, wars, etc.) Here you are going to look up at Part III. For whatever you had listed for A, B, etc. you are going to put the driving force of that action/intervention in the correlating spot. So for example - if you have the Korean War listed in A in Part III - then in A on this part you would put the driving force - or main reason the U.S. got involved in the Korean War. These should be in the exact same order as above and should go with each specific one you mentioned in III.

A. First force goes here - and should explain WHY the U.S. become involved with event A above

B. Second force goes here- and should explain WHY the U.S. become involved with event B above

C. Third force goes here- and should explain WHY the U.S. become involved with event C above

D. Fourth force goes here - and should explain WHY the U.S. become involved with event D above

E. Fifth force goes here- and should explain WHY the U.S. become involved with event E above

References

(make sure to keep the references section on its own page and delete the Instructions)

**you must include at least three academic references other than the textbook. For exemplary credit - use more than 3

NOTE: Wikipedia and other generic-type websites (like ask.com, about.com, infoplease, yahoo etc.) are not acceptable. You must use scholarly sources only. Academic journals from the library search engines are best (like Jstor etc.).

You can also use http://scholar.google.com/ - which will bring up scholarly references. If it asks you to pay - do not do that. You can write down the author and name of article and probably find it in the Strayer library resources.
