Chapter 4, "Tort Law: Traditional Torts and Cyber Torts"

In this chapter, you will explore tort law; that is, the part of the legal system that developed to protect people from the wrongful conduct of others in areas that are not covered by criminal law. These kinds of offenses are also referred to as "private wrongs". This section classifies and explains the three main types of torts, identifies the most common torts, and defines negligence and strict liability. Finally, the defenses to torts are explored, as well at the remedies available to an injured party.

Focus on the definitions and concepts provided throughout the chapter. Review the examples provided in the chapter that illustrate the major ideas being conveyed. Think about why some wrongful conduct is considered criminal and why all other offenses are torts or civil matters, as well as the differences between intentional torts and negligence.

Chapter 6, "Contract Law: A Beginning"

A contract is the most basic aspect of business law. In this chapter, you will explore what a contract is and learn the essential elements that must be present for a contract to be valid, in other words, what must occur or be present in order to have a contract. This section introduces the terminology of contracts that will be expanded and built upon in future chapters.

Focus on the definitions and concepts provided throughout the chapter. Review and think about the examples provided in the chapter that demonstrate the major ideas being conveyed, as well as illustrate each of the essential requirements of a contract.
