DISCUSSION 1

1.  Discuss the SDLC and its major processes?

After reading the text the System Development Life Cycle has been defined as a process model. This entire process model establishes and identifies all the activities, task and deliverables. In addition the SDLC maintains an information system and all components to include auxiliary project management.  These are the processes that are part of system analysis, system design, programming, testing, and maintenance. Although there are a variety of processes and approaches to conducting an SDCL. There are six core process that are always required.

1.   Identify the problem or need and obtain approval to proceed.

2.   Plan and monitor the project—what to do, how to do it, and who does it.

3.   Discover and understand the details of the problem or the need.

4.   Design the system components that solve the problem or satisfy the need.

5.   Build, test, and integrate system components.

6.   Complete system tests and then deploy the solution.

2.  What SDLC techniques were used in the Ridgeline Mountain Outfitters (RMO) running case study?

RMO had/has 4 current systems that were being proposed for replacement to one system. They want to replace Supply Chain Management, Phone/Mail Order System, Retail store systems and customer support systems. The replacement information system would be the new consolidated sales and marketing system. As part of the system analysis they company utilized techniques that included interviews to users, customers and stakeholders. The company distributed and collected questionnaires, surveys, input, outputs, and other documents. They conducted research on vendor solutions and collected all suggestions for an analytical review.  Additionally the company documented all work flow activities with diagrams, work flow processes and built process maps as part of the system analysis techniques.

DISCUSSION 2

System development life cycle can be described as designing, testing, and implementing any software application. That will be including the internal development of customizing a system and is has five stages. The SDLC can also be described as the application development lifecycle, and the SDLC term is used in system engineering information and software engineering. The SDLC concept can depict to a range of hardware and software configuration. A system will be composed of hardware only, software only, and maybe a combination of both. The SDLC is a number of clearly defined and distinct work phases. The work phases are used by engineers and developers to plan for and deliver information systems. The SDLC will be pointing towards to produce high quality systems similar to manufacturing assembly line. The purpose of the SDLC is to meet or exceed the customers. The physical layer is would be showing the electrical signals and also the optical. The second layer would be the data link layer and that can be the layer that will allow the data to be transferred. The fourth layer is the  network layer and the layer is in charge of the logical addressing. Layer number four is the transfer layer, and it will transfer the data. The fifth layer is the session layer and it is taking care of the managing and terminating connections that is between applications. The sixth layer is the presentation layer, the last layer is the application layer. The RMO wanted to change the way they did business with phones, their mail orders, and the retail system. They conducted interviews by using a certain technique. They did their homework with the customers.
