Points/Comments:

Project Risk Assessment Matrix includes Risk identified.

X

Happy that you expanded the minimum (3) risks. The entire matrix was filled out to completion. The identification of your risks was a bit more “generic” that I would have liked. Many only used “generic” risks like “poor decisions” which made risk mitigation difficult. All cells were filled out in the matrix. I would suggest additional narrative in the risk mitigation area . Suggest assigning actual names in the Point of Contact area.

25

Expected cost if Risk is determined

X

You listed costs. Availability of required technology (needs to be more specific) represented the highest risk cost. 13

Risk Probability determined

X

Noted. The highest probabilities included the lack of proper management in assigning tasks and resources This could lead to an analysis of whether you have the proper management on hand to complete the project. 15

Factored Risk Value (shown)

X

Noted. 5

Risk Impact to project determined

X

Again, the high risk was indicated. Perhaps the resource planning inadequacies should be there as well?

9

Risk Mitigation Plan provided

X

Your specific recommendations could be supplemented with additional text.

Points/Comments:

The chart was reconfigured into a critical path diagram for project scheduling similar to the diagram in the lecture notes.

X

Suggest indicating the critical path arrows in red. I thought numbers and letters in the inserted tables were very helpful. Very happy with your effort on the diagram.

46

The duration of the project was discussed

X

The critical path (longest) has to go through F and G and this created the duration of 54 days. 12

Information on the slack available in the non-critical path was discussed

X

The non critical path includes A to B and E to G and this determines your float or slack for a total of 9 days.

12

The length of the project and feeder buffers are discussed

X

In the critical chain, the project buffer is 50% of the project duration so 27 days is correct. The feeder buffer was not itemized.

Name of your company and introduction of the program/project overview

X

You established Boecore as your company and included the project high level overview and the decision doing the initial project review at the client’s site. You identified the U.S. Army as your customer. The memo was properly addressed to your management team.

15

Initial assessment of the program as the program manager (20) and Student' response to what they believe their first action as the Program manager may be (20).

X

You referenced your recommendation of meeting with the client to review the functional and operational requirements. Wondering if one of your key first tasks would be contacting the customer to get the ball rolling?

37

List at least 3 initial concerns with the program (10 points each

X

You expressed concern with the ability of your firm in meeting the project’s date deadlines. Perhaps the hiring of additional staff with experience in this area is the key? Other risk factors would include your firm’s ability to manufacture a back pack meeting budget and cost goals. A key concern might also be your firms’ prior experience in manufacturing this type of military product and the ability to meet lightweight military standards.

27

Conclusion

A good personal writing style.

Points/Comments:

Course of action is discussed regarding the refrigerated module being too large for the designed refrigerated backpack pouch.

x

Good work in creating an introduction and a brief restatement of the case. Your course of action was to call for a redesign of the refrigeration module. Recommend a section labeled: “course of action”. What specific course of action will you take with your internal design team (backpack) since it would appear that it might be too late to redesign the refrigeration module which is probably outsourced? 25

Course of action is discussed regarding the subcontractor assigned to build the radio module for the backpack has shut down.

X

You recommended reaching out to alternative radio module producers. Were these alternative suppliers already identified in your risk mitigation plan? 22

Analysis is discussed with four areas affected by the unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and impact to schedule. Identify one additional area affected by the events. (each area worth 10 points and overall analysis worth 10 points)

X

Good work with the sub headers as well as specific discussion on all four impact areas. Impacts included budget, human capital, cost estimate, and scheduling. However, other than some specific details in the budget are, the other impact areas contained mostly generic content.

Points/Comments:

Part I: Project Scope Description

X

Some limited content covering just the project summary objective. Recommend a bit more substance here. In looking at your organizational plan, you opted to use bullet points with very little narrative throughout. While this can be effective in some instances, you need crucial narrative as well in the beginning.

12

Project Assumptions, goals, constraints, limitations, milestones presented

X

Safe to say there will be some challenges in this type of project to include change orders and design issues . I thought you could have done a better job of introducing some realistic content in this exercise. For example, in the technical requirements area, you could have inserted some key data regarding weight and performance. In addition, I felt that additional narrative for each bullet would improve your report. One of the few papers to include assumptions and goals which was good. Assumptions could also include comments on expected change orders. Goals should include the ability to win future contracts similar to this with the U.S. Army or other agencies. In addition, if you are going to conduct testing with a prototype, then add that to your milestones. I suggest conducting ongoing meetings with the customer and that these be added to the milestones as referenced in the customer review section. Go ahead and schedule those future meetings. 9

Project risks (initial assessment)

X

Risks were carried forward from initial manager’s memo but needed added substance. For some reason, many missed this requirement. You will have to expand comments on these bullets:

Financial

Inflation

Delay

8

Part II. Project Schedule analysis is discussed with four areas affected by the unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and impact to schedule. Identify one additional area affected by the events. (each area worth 10 points and overall analysis worth 10 points)

X

You had only one+ page devoted to covering your responses to the unexpected events presented. I thought you could have expanded all three recommended response sections. You indicated that you would accept the delayed three-month payment but review financing options. What about a customer meeting here? You should consider looking for an alternative material supplier when encountering the event as well as possible negotiation of the project timeline milestones. Where was the substance on the four areas impacted by each scenario?

The project Statement of Work (defined/ introduction) (10 points)

· Business need (10 points)

· Product scope description (10)

Strategic plan (20)

X

You authored a SOW with reference to the U.S. Army project. Good use of one of the posted templates.

The Statement of Work (SOW) is needed in this case scenario due to the type of government contract involved. The U.S. Army would be preparing this to make sure all touch points were covered by the vendor (in this case your firm (name not included ). You utilized a good sectional formatAreas that I would suggest adding would include additional content from the business need standpoint (Why the Army is requesting this backpack). This could reference a brand new project or replacement of a similar backpack. This could be added to the introduction/background section. In addition, the specifications of the major deliverables have to be spelled out in more detail in your scope statement area. The scope of work has to be in more detail as it must describe the contract and what might be referenced as “out of scope”. I think the three key areas are the weight and the performance goals for the backpack to include the refrigerated pouch and radio modules which could be added to the scope of work with comments in your introduction. You should include an “out of scope” statement section. You need to reference “out of scope” issues which have to be addressed with other contract documents. You had a good start with your phase listings (Work requirements) which would be transferred to the WBS. The milestones were expressed with solid detail. Missing an acceptance section.

Introduction: 10

Product Scope Desc.: 10

Strategic Plan: 10

Project Work Breakdown Structure created using the template from the course.

X

A good level of detail in the WBS. Your WBS was prepared using the identified phases in the SOW. You broke down the project into phases (design program review, etc .). I would suggest adding more levels to accommodate the outsourcing, etc. of some aspects of the project like the radio and refrigeration modules.
