The two were not talking since they had had an argument about the previous night concerning children. Lately the couple has been getting into frequent arguments because of Olive being insecure about the matter of getting a baby. She believed she was the reason why the two were unable to get a bay even though the two had not gone to check what the problem was. John never really blamed Olive but telling her that never seemed to convince her and this was the main issue causing all the fuss.
As the couple were coming near the last turn at crossroads where the road forks where to one direction, the road heads on to Misria and the other, their town of Sodusopa, John some huge thing standing motionlessly in the middle of the road and this forced him to instantly break shoving Olive who was first asleep forward almost hitting the windscreen.
“Always belt up Olive.” Shouts John.
“Is that why you hit the breaks that hard, was that the point you were trying to prove.” Olive replies angrily.
“You can argue over anything Olive, you know that…” Says John and before he could finish, Olive interrupts saying, “Look, there’s something on the road, It looks like, like a person.” John answers, “Stay in the car, let me first go take a look.”
John hops out of the Jeep he has had for two years now after getting it from his father who passed away a couple of weeks ago. Olive does not listen to John, she also gets off the vehicle and walks a bit faster towards the human looking object.
On taking a closer look, John sees that it is just a teenage boy, and tries to talk to him.
“Hey are you alright, get off the road.” Says John angrily.
“That’s rude John, go see what’s wrong with him.” Replies Olive
“What are you doing in the middle of the road this late with all the rain?” Says john to the boy.
“Hey can you hear me?” Repeats John.
“Are you okay? Stop interrogating the poor kid John.” Olive asks the kid in a sympathetic tone
Olive runs to the car and gets her small blanket and covers the boy who stood at the cross roads naked, confused and mute. The boy stands on the road motionlessly and completely naked with traces of blood all over its body. Olive leads the boy towards the car. John remains on the road looking at the surrounding trying to make sense of the whole situation. He does not understand how the boy reached there and furthermore not getting a single answer from the boy makes him be against the idea of letting the stranger into their vehicle. Olive did not consult him, her caring nature did not allow her to think about such questions or give her an impression that maybe the boy had ulterior motives.
Inspecting the site, John sees a huge hole, something resembling a grave site but gives little consideration being a person who is very skeptic.
While in the car very little makes sense to the boy. He could hardly remember how he got there at the cross roads. He has traces of blood but on inspection, he does not have any injury or cut.
The only thing the boy can remember is waking up with a huge piece of fork sticking out of its chest. He cannot answer any of John’s numerous questions even though he really wants to. This is because nothing at the moment made sense to him. He did not even understand the ability he had to understand even the language that he spoke.
The couple proceed to take the teenage boy to the police station not knowing that that moment and encounter would soon change their lives forever. The police records the statement and since it was late in the night, he says the only way the boy can be assisted at the moment was sleeping inside a cell as he waited to be sorted in the morning once other options are available.
On seeing this, Olive quickly suggests that she would rather have the John Doe sleep at their place since the police officer had really no better place to place the boy. John did not agree with this but it’s not like it really mattered.
The boy ends up spending more time than initially expected mainly because Olive pushed the policemen to allow the boy who was later named by the people who knew him Jonathan. Olive began calling him Joe and soon everyone took up the name.
The situation becomes a bit better as the Olive and Joe began knowing each other better and the two begin to bond. Getting a place where the boy can be taken care of proves to be difficult.
One thing leads to another and the couple ends up adopting the boy since they needed a child and they see the occurrence as heaven sent so they decide to go for it. The boy is also for the idea so they begin leaving with it. The boy joins a local school and it starts struggling to act normal. The fact that it is a vampire prevents the possibility of leading a normal life. Minor things start to affect it.
Its true inner side of a monstrous nature slowly begins to develop. It begins to hear the sound of heartbeats from people who are far away, the sun slowly becomes hotter than usual, normal human food begins to lose its taste, a craving for human blood begins to develop in a short time after staying with the couple.
Joe one night unconsciously attacks his new mom shredding her to bits. He just wakes up in the middle of the night, his heart pounding heavily, he runs to the mirror and cannot believe what he sees. His teeth and nails longer way tougher than usual.
As he stares into the mirror undergoing a great deal of pain, he suddenly passes out. Joe wakes up the following morning to the sight of blood everywhere. He sees his new mom laying lifelessly on the floor with huge scratches everywhere and bite marks on her neck. He concludes he must be the one who did all that and decides to run away.
