Post 2 A new discussion has been started that may be interesting to you: Non-violence in the Middle East In my opinion, the central issue in the middle east is based around Palestine because it is the symbol of the negative consequences of the US and Europe’s involvement in that region. It is the symbol of the US’s recent support of regimes like Saudi Arabia and Egypt which have persecuted their people. With that, it is almost impossible for our actions to be seen as the “liberators” we tried to be in Iraq. As soon as we got there, the population of Iraq began to resist us. Even if they hated Saddam Hussein they felt like the US was worse. They responded with violence and we responded with violence. The hatred and misinformation in the middle eastern countries is deeply rooted and difficult to combat. Children are taught in “madrasa” schools to hate America (the Great Satan) before they even know what America really represents. They are never given the full story with an unbiased view. The only thing we can do is counter that with our own information, and by making the right decisions going forward (because you can’t change the past). In my opinion, the “threat” of ISIS to our own homeland is minimal. I believe the real threat is the continued damage we do by being involved and perpetrating our own violence. |

Post 3 A new discussion has been started that may be interesting to you: Violent and Nonviolent solutions The conflict in the middle east is not so easily solved with nonviolence. Unfortunately, due to the beliefs of the group causing destruction in the middle east, a nonviolence outcome is not obtainable. Their beliefs are engulfed with hate towards others who do not believe or think like them. According to them, violence is the only solution to the problem they see. They have stuck to their violent ways and up to this moment it has worked in their favor. They have spread all over the middle east and have growth exponentially over the years. The only time they want a nonviolent solution is when they are trapped in a corner with no way out and death in staring them in the face. Do not get me wrong, nonviolent solutions are what we strive for but unfortunately we cannot speak to those who do not want to listen nor those who act like savag |
