Business Management
Individual Project Information
The goal of the individual project is for the student to act as project manager for a virtual project that will start with a project charter and utilize key project templates throughout the life cycle of the project. The project will culminate in a minimum 1000-word closeout paper. The individual project will demonstrate that the student can appropriately apply the project management templates throughout the life cycle of his or her project and can evaluate and articulate the project team’s performance of actual work as it relates to plan values as well as capture valuable lessons learned for knowledge sharing. We encourage you to be creative in this process.
Individual Project Background info:
Your project will be to remodel a master bathroom for a good friend. You have a reputation for being skilled in home improvement and your friend has asked you to undertake this project to help save money on the project. Your friend’s bathroom is very outdated and in disrepair.
Scope: You and your friend have met to discuss options and have settled on the following: you will replace the bathtub, vanity/sink, toilet and all light fixtures. You will re-tile the shower, replace the linoleum with tile flooring and re-paint the bathroom. You will also install GFIs, since the bathroom currently has none.
Cost: Your budget is $6,000. Budget is extremely important and cannot be exceeded. You plan to do most of the work yourself at a low hourly rate, which will help meet this tight budget. The customer will also help with some tasks.
Schedule: You hope to have this project completed within 30 days but some schedule slippage is allowed if needed. The project will start on Month 1, day 15.
Quality: Quality is important and your friend has selected good quality materials to ensure a long life for this new bathroom space. If money becomes an issue, your friend will consider reducing the quality of some materials.
Project Charter
Please use the information provided above to complete your charter.
WBS
For the WBS, use the info provided in the project task info table below. You must also define what your deliverable(s) will be for each task and which of your stakeholders will be responsible, accountable, informed, consulted for each task. Your stakeholders are: project manager (you), customer (your friend), sponsor (your friend’s parents who are paying for most of the project), plumber, electrician and contractor (to supplement labor as needed). The following table contains the activities you will execute for your project. NOTE: Do not add or delete tasks. This is the list of activities everyone must use.

Non Work Days
Project update cycles
Update cycle information will be provided to you by the instructor 1-2 weeks prior to the due date of the update cycle. Please keep in mind the priorities you chose for your project (Cost, Time, Quality) as you make recommendations for your update cycles. You will need to discuss those priorities in each update cycle.
Final report
The final report must be 1000 words minimum. Please be creative in the creation of the final paper. Please demonstrate your understanding of Project Management terminology and theories. The exact format of and application used for the final report is at the discretion of the student but the report must address the following:
Project Closure (30 pts):
· Brief description of project closure and what value you think proper closure adds to a project.
· Identify what your project objectives and goals were (from Charter) and whether or not those were met. If something was not met, discuss why.
· Identify your intended project scope and deliverables were (from Charter). Discuss any changes (if there were any) to the scope baseline and how those changes positively or negatively impacted the project.
· Identify what your intended project benefits were (from Charter) and whether or not the benefits were achieved. Also, highlight any unintended consequences (negative impacts) that occurred during execution of the project.
· Compare project baseline schedule (from Project plan) to final project schedule and point out any variations from that original plan. Provide reasons for variations, actions taken along the way to address/mitigate variations and whether or not those actions were effective. Discuss variances in relation to project priorities.
· Compare your planned cost (from Project plan) against the actual cost from Update cycle 3. Provide reasons for variations, actions taken along the way to address/mitigate variations and whether or not those actions were effective. Discuss variances in relation to project priorities.
· Discuss your top risks (from Risk plan) and whether or not those risks occurred. If so, did contingency plans work?
· Share the top 4 lessons you have learned during this class.
