Research Project Proposal
Emotion and Ethical Decision-Making in Organizations
In the daily life, people have different life style and have a different personality to deal with the several circumstances in their lives of making a bad or good decision based on personal experience. Gender, culture, emotion, and ethics are some factors that affect people in decision-making. So the question is that how people can make a right decision when they are in a position as a responsible employee or a manager? And how they can do make the decision away from emotion feelings? Or even away from ethical aspects? The emotion and ethical decision-making in an organization is a concept that illustrates some of the emotional situations that affect the individual to determine the moral dilemmas and make it easier for the individual to make a decision. In particular, the concept has a positive impact in solving moral dilemmas in a manner consistent with the evolving moral structures.
According to an article on the importance of values and culture in ethical decision making, "The foundation of ethical decision-making involves choice and balance; it is a guide to discard bad choices in favour of good ones. Therefore, in making ethical decisions, one of the first questions to consider is 'what a reasonable man would do in this situation?'"(Hojnacki, 2004). Talking about making decisions, I found that many organizations put questions on the interview to ask the applicants to make some solutions and decisions by posing some problems related to the career life. Also, I found that besides having a certificate, organizations are focusing on strong personality skills and the speed of making the right decision as an appropriate standard to get a job, especially in the management department. Through the report, it will define theories and styles of decision-making that will make the concept of emotion and ethical decision-making in an organization more clear to understand when, where, and why employees or managers makes right decisions for the benefits to organizations .
In addition, cultural differentiation is one of the factors that influencing the decision-making. Sometimes we are making some sensitive decisions based on our culture, emotions or our ethics in our career lives. Making an emotional or ethical decision by the staff is one of the concern to many organizations and business owners. However, the research will focus on how emotions influence individuals' ethical decision process, and how different emotions promote or discourage ethical decision-making in the workplace. I have chosen this topic because learning and understanding the circumstances of the difference culture that would give employees and managers more options of making a good decision than facing issues against the organization's policy, or against the law due to take a decision based on emotion.
