Week 3: Discussion and Blog Student Response

The power of Disconnecting Technology often consumes our lives. We depend on it daily, to communicate with others and to know what is going on around us. However, there was once a time when technology was not as common. During these three days of being disconnected from technology, I found it to be very difficult. I have become so use to my daily rituals after work, and technology is a big part of it. Often times, I enjoy watching my favorite TV shows. Not being able to do that or play video games, took a lot of patience and trying. The hardest part was staying off of social media sites, such as Facebook. I am so use to checking Facebook daily, and seeing what my friends are doing. This week was fairly easy to stay off because of the election results. I was so tired of people fighting and arguing over the election, that I found it was easy to stay off social media. There were many times I felt like lapsing, but I managed to find other means of entertainment. I found that reading regular books, was one thing I enjoyed. It really helped to make it through this period, having such alternatives to technology. While it was difficult, I feel it was nice to take a break from technology. Kennedy (2016) states, "In order to really connect with people, it’s important to give them the most precious gift you can give, the gift of your time and attention."
