  • Wagner’s operas (music dramas) were long, complex, full of symbolism, and less popular than Verdi’s. Verdi’s operas featured exciting stories, memorable arias, and were very popular. Nevertheless, both of these composers are considered “great” today. Are there modern musicians/artists who resemble this kind of relationship?

2 Antonin Dvorak, Bedrich Smetana, Piotr Tchaikovsky, and Modest Musorgsky are all composers that included nationalist characteristics in their music. Are there artists that incorporate nationalism in their music today? What features of their music suggest nationalism?
