Abstract

Today’s satellite telecommunications has certainly passed a gratifying peek into an innovative

stage of development, with approximately 40 satellite operator governing around 250 satellites in

geostationary orbit (NASA, nd). The features those operators offer range from support trunks in

the network and telephony fields, to the broadcasting and distribution of thousands of television

channels to multiple millions of users around the world. As efficient as satellites are today, these

systems are on the cusp of a revolutionary impact in our not too distant future. This significant

impact will be carried about by the establishment of a innovative generation of cost-effective

interactive broadband services, which will be commanded by larger corporations in its infancy

stages, then to small and medium sized corporations, and ultimately to the private sector.
