The effect of abortion on moral character

This paper is interested in showing the impact that abortion on moral character. The topic will be focused on proving that abortion is an immoral act, through showing the effect that the abortionists face due to making a choice to abort or assist in abortion that is to the mother and the medical practitioner respectively (Colquhoun 2015). This will show how the moral character of those that take part in abortion is decreased that is if the act was not carried out due to medical exemptions given by the medical department concerning abortion.

Abortion is a topic that has had various discussions on whether it is morally right or wrong according to various values and ethics by people. Abortion does not only have effects on the mother but is has an impact on the physicians or the people that take part in the abortion. Abortion has an impact on people’s psychology, physical and moral character well-being, people’s moral characters are influenced by their ethics and morals/values they were taught while young and those they have learnt in every step of their lives (Vincent 2012). Abortion is an immoral act and those that take part in it display their moral characters, this does not refer to the mother but also to the physicians. Medical practitioners during their medical training there are morals and ethics that they are taught and they must follow as they offer their medical services to people, thus for every action they take in their service they are responsible and accountable for them.

Abortion is legalized and illegal in some countries all over the world, in the countries that abortion is illegal has exceptions in which they would allow people to abort but under certain conditions. The medical practitioners are aware of the exceptions that are given in which they are allowed to carry out abortion and at this point the act is not immoral and it has no effect one’s moral character. In cases where the nurses, doctors and mother’s should take part in abortion is when they discover that the life of the mother and that of the child is at risk the mother and the medical practitioners are allowed to abort the child to save life.

Conducting an abortion that is not due to the conditions provided in unethical and it portrays that the mother and the medical practitioner involved in the act went against their morals and ethics. The abortionists lose their moral character and they are no longer the same since this changes their moral standards as they lose value for human life, this makes them murders (Johnston 2003). The impact of carrying the guilt of taking part in abortion changes the manner they value morals and ethics and everything they do from there is not according to their morals and values.

It discusses the manner in which a mother and medical practitioner’s moral character determine the decision they make on abortion. The people that take part in abortion, their moral characters are impacted by this decision and the manner that they live every day and it detects the type of people they turn to be after the act, this makes them immoral.

The article shows that the people that harm the innocent child through abortion also cause harm on themselves, they harm their moral character. Anthony Ozimic emphasizes that those that do bad or good to others the choice they make makes them bad or good people. This indicates that if the abortionists take part in an immoral act they become immoral people.
