Activity Title: The Giving Tree

Identify Key Objectives:

-Students will understand the importance of being grateful for the gifts and support of family and friends.

-Students will listen to the story of “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein and share with one another of real life examples of gift and support.

Identify Materials Needed:

-Colored Construction Paper

-Scissors

-magazines

-Glue, string and markers

Vocabulary:

-Grateful

-Thankful

-Family

-Support

Identify Instructional Procedures:

· Initiation

Ask if students are grateful for family and friends support. Ask them if they received gifts. Then Read the story of “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein

· Lesson

· The Lesson is to teach students to be grateful for all they have and have been given to them as they grow with friends, family and other class mates.

· Closure

The students will then break into groups and share magazines, and other supplies to create a giftbox organizer

Home-School Connection: The children will be able to understand that family, friend and other members of support will share gifts and always be there for them if they ever need help.

Reflection:

During the execution phase, students will be able to share with eachother and learn from one another about humility and thanksgiving.
