DESIGN PROJECT Design the following structural members of a proposed building. The building is to be located in Toledo, Ohio. The floor system is to consist of reinforced concrete slab and beams; a partial floor plan is shown on the attached sheet. Service loads and dimensions are given below. The building is to be two (2) stories in height, i.e. the total exterior wall height equals two (2) times the “Floor-to-Floor Height”. Maintain ten feet (10’) minimum floor-to-ceiling (underside of beam) height. The roof load is carried to the exterior columns by roof trusses so the exterior walls do not carry any applied axial load. Use: = 4,000 psi; fy = 60,000 psi; qall = 4,500 psf; ϒe = 110 pcf
Part 1) Design the continuous one-way slab (second floor interior section). The main reinforcement is parallel to the short span.
Design the simple span beam along column line 2 (interior section). Due __________________________
Part 2) Design column 2-B. Include footing design. Due __________________________
Part 3) Design the CMU exterior wall. Include footing design. Include necessary specifications.

Due __________________________ Each submittal shall include all design calculations and appropriate sketches. Insure that all code requirements are met and so stipulate in the calculations. Sketches shall be neat and properly dimensioned. Sufficient information shall be included on the sketches for a CAD technician to prepare construction drawings.

DESIGN PROJECT
All group members are expected to participate equally in the design process. This representation must be evident within the submittals. Since this is being prepared as a professional design process, each submittal must be signed by each group member. If any member of the group has not adequately taken part in the design process, his/her signature should be excluded. Grades will only be assigned to the project signers. A cover/title sheet is to proceed the calculations and sketches. This sheet shall include the phase of the project, the date, the group number, and the signatures.
