SUBJECT: Assignment 6 Instructions
For this assignment, write a cover message and résumé for a position advertised online on Workopolis or some other job board. Choose a job you are qualified for and can begin within two months. Most students will probably want to apply for a part-time position that they can fit in with their university schedule, although fourth-year students nearing graduation might want to apply for a full-time position.
The job must be a “step up” from any job you have held so far, with more responsibilities. For example, if you have already worked as a waiter, you could apply for an assistant manager position in a restaurant. Alternatively, you could choose a completely unrelated position in another industry as long as you are qualified for it.
Follow the email format discussed in class for your cover message, and use whichever résumé format—chronological or functional—best presents your relevant qualifications. In class, you will learn about which format works better in different circumstances, and you will need to apply that instruction when making your choice.
Do not use a template or wizard for either document. Consult the cover message checklist on p. 509 and the resume checklist on p. 501 of your textbook.
Important Notes:
· If you have taken COMM2293 before, you
must
choose a new job and employer and create a new cover message. You may use an updated version of your previous résumé.
· Use only truthful information about yourself. Presenting false information on a résumé is unethical.
· Merge your cover message and résumé into
one
electronic file before submitting Turnitin.com.
· Review the checklists distributed during your workshop class to ensure all assignment criteria has been met.
