· Employers may think they are saving money by offering skinny plans, but there may be unintended consequences.  For instance, if employees have high deductibles, co-payments, pharmacy costs, etc., they will be less likely to go to the doctor when they need to.  If they don't seek the care they need, they will become sicker and may have to take time off of work.  Time off of work = less productivity for a company, which in the end is a cost.  

 

If employers think about it, it might be more cost effective if they contributed more to their employees' plans rather than having low productivity and morale because employees are not seeking the care they need.
