Discussion
I have worked at an organization in the past years and in the short duration I have managed to rise through the ranks pretty fast owing to my hard work, determination and commitment to attaining the set objectives and goals of the organization. When team manager was away on maternity leave, I was appointed to carry out her functions and responsibilities. With no management experience at all, I had to juggle management of the group and my functions and roles at the same time. Upon the manager’s return, she instructed me email her the team’s progress report. She was very picky and exclaimed why I could not carry out assigned operations and roles her way. Consequently, she gave me a poor review and failed to include my successful operations in her report. I maintained my composure and respect for her as always since I could not afford to lose my job. I thought the issue ended there but it seemed she was not done with me yet. The performance appraisal and review, she awarded me the lowest score despite my diligence and commitment to every assigned task and activity within the organization. In this line, I felt greatly pressured and mistreated without due cause or reason. Since then, I have always felt trapped and hence my resolve to note down all my daily activities and email correspondences.
Recommendation
Managers and organizational leaders ought to foster the spirit of tolerance and understanding amongst their employees by serving as examples. This does not in any way call for tolerance of mistakes. Additionally, every organization ought to organize quality interactive sessions and training initiatives that would get the employees appreciating each other’s efforts and contributions to the overall success of their organization. Moreover, each and every organization should set up a functional tribunal that serves the express purpose of resolving disputes and misunderstandings between employees to limit and mitigate cases of mistreatment within their organizations (Sheehan, 2013).
