Review Guidelines

Here are some guidelines for your play review, worth 15% of your final grade (like the midterm.) In "Content" you will find a review tip document penned by Dr. Schneider. PLEASE USE IT, it is the best guide to the best grade you can receive! Also use the review reading by Kate Wilkinson.

Your review should shoot for about 1000 words, which is roughly 4 pages. Under no circumstances should it be any less than 2 very full pages! Your review should be typed, 1.5 or double-spaced and in MAXIMUM 12 pt font. Write enough to cover all the information you must cover and to make it interesting. If you need more, write more; I cannot imagine covering all the info you need to cover taking less than 3 pages. Your grade will be based on how effectively you complete the task of reviewing the performance, and how well you weave together all the elements of what a review should have, including a summary, descriptions, observations, critiques, pertinent names and details, and your own lasting impressions. Like Dr, Schneider's tips instruct: If you really want to detail one part more than any other, please do so, focus on and develop that part, but not at the complete omission of any other pertinent info. You must at least summarize the pertinent info. Write for your reader who has not seen the play and hypothetically needs to decide whether they want to see it or not.

Dr. Schneider's tips warn that you'll get zeros for plagiarism and do-overs for mistaken or misspelled names and titles. THESE APPLY TO YOU!

Edit your work. I do not want your first draft, I want your final draft; in my experience, those are never the same thing.

You can either hand in a printed copy or submit on blackboard by the end of the due date. I will not accept emailed copies! ONE review is required of either Desdemona OR Ubu. Whichever you don't review you will need to turn in a treatment for.
