Electronic communication

Electronic communication seems to work well, because it is quick and simple when relaying a message or asking a question. This can be done individually or as a group when contacting your employees.

Meetings

Meetings are very common and usually happen at least once a month. This gives the director the chance to bring up specific concerns and also allows the staff to communicate with the director as a whole. There are usually handouts or notes taken at these meetings.

Handbooks

Handbooks are given out to each parent as they enroll their children and to each staff member on their hire date. These handbooks have important rules that parents and staff must follow. It also talks about our center as a whole and contains our mission, vision and philosophy.

Comfortable and supportive workplaces

It is very important that our staff feels comfortable and they feel supported during their time with us here at our center. As a director I am not only here for the children and their families, but also for my staff. I want you to remember my door is always open and I will keep an open mind. I know that our daily lives change and I will keep that in mind as well. Please remember that our families depend on us as a team. I want to keep my staff physically and mentally prepared for their job at all times. Things here are done as team work.

Career development opportunities for staff

Every teacher will need to take a training course every month. These courses are that will only help you improve as a teacher or as an assistant teacher. Please remember that we will have our monthly staff meeting and this is a good time to bring your class work if you need help. Not only will I be available to help you with it, but we will also do study groups. If anyone has a good idea for training please feel free to put a note in the box on my desk. We will look at every opportunity to help everyone individually if possible. I will always help promote my staff to better themselves in what we do and continue to climb the ladder of professional development.

Make sure staff feel valued

Encouraging my staff is one thing I will strive for. If I see someone trying really hard or someone has improved a lot, then I would like to personally praise them. Staff please remember if you see someone struggling or someone has made a difference, please bring it to their attention and tell them good job. If something has gone wrong and we need to talk about things then fine. We will talk about it and find a solution to fixing it. That is what a team does for each other.

Create a productive environment

Each classroom will be well designed and setup for the teachers and the children. Having a well stocked room will allow the teachers to have what they need in order to teach these young children. I want you to feel comfortable in your own class, please make it your own. There are certain rules and regulations that we must follow, but I am open to allowing you to move things around. “Classrooms should generally feel welcoming, open, and inviting, but the details about where to place specific pieces of furniture and how to set up shelves may be influenced by the curriculum and philosophy of the program” (Gadzikowski, 2013, Ch. 5.4, Pa. 6). Please make sure that you get my approval for these changes. If there is anything that you are missing in your class or something that you want please fill out a form and leave it on my desk. Remember everyone needs to be respectful and work together as a team when making these changes.
