THE EVOLUTION OF TELEVISION (1930-2010)
The invention followed 4 phases:
- Cable and Satellite TVs
- Interactive TV and video games explode
- Conventional 24 hour TV
- HD Technology integration
Before the 1980’s broadcast TV was only available at certain hours. The number of available broadcast stations was minimal, thus there were few options. After the invention of cable and satellite TV, programming changed and viewers could choose from a variety of programs. Television was also accessible twenty four hours a day. The invention of interactive TV and video games opened up a whole world of previously unknown home entertainment. Consequently, indoor entertainment took a front seat to outdoor activities, while television took on a bigger role within and in the entire world.

TV has for all intents and purposes turned into an internet extension since it can grant users with interactive capabilities through which people can conduct interactive learning sessions, instructive video programs, and meetings. Today's wide screens in both HD and 3D offer realistic circumstances to impact knowledge especially for those in the relevant working environment.
GROWTH OF TELEVISION DURING ITS EVOLUTION
Over the years, there have been people and companies that have helped grow and develop television as a medium during its evolution. These companies or people have shaped our beliefs, values, and decisions in society. Television is dominated by five major companies:
Time Warner (1980-present)
VIACOM (1951 - present)
Vivendi Universal (1970’s)
Walt Disney (1939-present)
News Corp (1981-present)
The 5 own a majority 95% of all the daily media content broadcasted such as major entertainment movie studios, theme parks, radio and television broadcast networks as well as programming, sports entertainment and video news. They are also owners of electronic media, integrated telecommunications, video games software, wireless phones, and the music industry (Wooten, 2013).
The justification for my chosen medium, television is the incorporation of every entertainment and broadcasting aspect. The companies that own a majority of electronic media are directly linked with their starting points being the television industry.
