Matrix to Focus and Plan Data Collection
Introduction
Data collection is an important aspect when it comes to any research needed in any study. Accurate data collection is needed for valid results as inaccurate one will be having distorted information and wrong information which may also lead to invalid results thus rendering the research unreliable. As such, there is need to employ effective methods of data collection when collecting data and this is dictated by type of study being conducted. There are usually two types of data; primary and secondary sources of data.
Primary data: This is information collected specifically for the purposes of a given project. It is data collected directly from the first-hand investigation. Primary data is obtained from questionnaires, interviews and focus groups. Unlike in secondary data, primary data is more authentic, reliable and objective majorly because it is original and less distorted.
Secondary: This is data obtained from other sources, typically from primary data. In other words, secondary data is information collected from a second hand or party. It can be obtained from journals, periodicals, books, internet etc. his data is less reliable and prone to errors and distortion.

Survey: it’s the most used source when it comes to social sciences, management, marketing, and psychology. Direct observation: This is when the researcher obtains by simply observing the objects under study. Experimenting: In this approach, the researcher gets information of the study by himself and takes the experience of what he is supposed to get in the roots. Published printed sources: This is a use of recorded data from books journals or newspapers.
Published electronics sources: we will get information from the internet; this will help in getting to know the product which will exist and mode of selling and use this to determine consumer tastes and preferences. Rationale These data sources are easily interpreted as they provide original information. This data is original as it has not been altered by any human being, hence being its validity. Use of survey will enable one to come in direct contact with the source. (Bethlehem & Biffignandi, 2012). Observation also will be used to gain a deeper insight of the market and see it before getting into it. Additionally, experimentation helps to determine consumer reactions towards product. |
Interviews: This refers to when the researcher asks questions. These are questions that are structured and standard nothing more. It is a good tool when accessing new markets; we will engage consumers directly with them through interviews. Questionnaires: Refers to the use of checklists and rating scales. It is usually invited to large numbers of people. We have a set of questions that will be distributed to various people through a brochure and the internet to get the best information before developing the product. Observation method: This is when one observes something to get the information he or she needs. It is the observation of the new market where our product will be sold to determine if the product will do well in the market before producing and distribution of the products. In other words, it helps in ascertaining expectations. Rationale Interviews: this is one of the best data collection tools as it gives direct contact between the research and the information. It can give a guess if the information being given is correct, also the researcher can do more probing hence improving the accuracy of data is added. This is because one gets into a deep conversation with the information. There is no need of grammar as people just need to speak and communicate, as long you can get the information; This makes this information feasible and quality. Also one can seek the explanation of complex information as one is only required to ask the source or explore more about it. Questionnaire: It is one of the best ways of collecting data as it gives the best information with full of originality and one can read the other person’s expression. Observation: it entails direct observation of the data, the researcher is the one involved in the field hence getting first-hand information without distortion. (Groves et al,2011) |
Paper files: This is the use of the paper files to store information or data for future reference. We will use this to store our information from questionnaire before evaluating it. Spreadsheets: It is the recording of financial information in a grid within a computer. This will be used to record the data when counting the number of resources needed. File systems: This is storing data in computer documents. The information obtained will be stored in computer files and documents for future reference. This will help to improve safety of the information before analyzing and evaluating those (Goda & Kitsuregawa, 2012). Rationale Using digital resources for storing data is the best method and more modern way. Here one can trace data from any place where there is network One can also store information on a hard drive for a given period of time. It improves safety as one can have a security password which allows only the authorized personnel to access the information. |
Data Security
Data security is a crucial area of concern for the project. In this particular case, data will be stored file systems. This is storing data in computer documents. The information obtained will be stored in computer files and documents for future reference. Both logical and physical security of data files will be protected through authorization, encryption, passwords, locks on servers and restricted access to storage and networking cabinets. These measures will help to improve safety of the information by restricting both logical and physical access.
Data evaluation
After data collection is completed, testing of the data is done to establish the accuracy, validity and overall quality of the data stored. As such, evaluation of data is carried out in order to determine and improve validity.
Evaluation questions
Data evaluation questions will be developed and they include;
a. How was the research conducted?
b. What were the interviewee reactions?
c. Was the information given valid and original?
d. Was the time taken to conduct the research adequate?
Data Analysis
Data will be analyzed using various methods;
1. Tables will be employed in data analysis. In addition, data mining, which is the automatic computer techniques which can run through a large number of data and arrange them, will help in recording the count of people who like the new product
1. Use of frequency tables: this is using of the visualizing grouping of data in times of a value of variable occurrence. It will help to rank consumer attitudes towards the product.
1. Summary statistics: This is a detailed summary of the data which is vital in comparing a project with another, before and after. This will be helpful as it will give us the way forward in determining whether the project is good as compared to the other and its workability (Linoff & Berry, 2011).
Conclusion
This matrix has highlighted the important points that need consideration in the implementation of the whole project. It provides a framework that serves as a road map to effective planning and inclusion of every relevant detail. In addition, this matrix serves as a checklist for evaluation as it provides all necessary parts of the project that need evaluation. In other words, it ensures that important points are not forgotten or overlooked.
