EE 476C Assignment, draft due 9-13-16, final due 9-20-16
Cultural Competence Essay: (25 points for the peer review and writing analysis, 75 points for the draft which is mostly graded on content and 50 points for final essay which is mostly graded on organization, flow, references and English usage). The writing analysis from your peer will not impact your grade.
This essay is a brief exploration of a culture that you are not already familiar with. It is an individual writing exercise that will be graded and count toward your semester grade. Content, a peer review, and organization, flow and English usage will all count toward your grade. A double-spaced typed draft copy is due next week (9-13-2016). You will lose 10 points/week for the draft submission if it is not ready by classtime on Tuesday. We will be trading draft essays to read during class on the 13th so please bring your draft on paper to class on Tuesday. When we trade essays, you will read another student’s essay, write suggestions for improvement on their paper/peer review form and circle the appropriate blocks on the writing analysis form. The peer review part of your grade will be based on whether you did a thorough job on the peer review. Your peer review ratings will not impact the grade of the author of the paper, but the author should be able to get some helpful suggestions from your peer review.
Your essay should explore 5 of the 10 “Due Diligence” cultural issues discussed in today’s lecture. Two of the categories should be covered in greater depth and should be covered first in your paper. They should be each 175-225 words and the three other issues of less depth should be each 100-150 words. The total length should be in the range of 650-900 words (your grade will be lowered up to 10 points if any section is either too long or too short). Be sure to use headings to help organize your writing and guide the reader regarding which “Due Diligence” area you are addressing.
Your writing should follow the Writing guidelines and Reference guidelines posted in BBLearn. Your paper should cite at least 3 sources and there should be citation references within your essay to the bibliographic section at the end of the paper. See the citation guidelines in BBLearn.
The final version of the paper is due by the 20th and should be turned in electronically to [email protected]. You will lose 5 points for up to each week late. Your final paper should incorporate suggestions made by your peer reviewer or others as appropriate. Your draft version and the review sheet that you received from your peer must also be turned in during class on the 20th. Your peer review grade will be a zero if you fail to turn in the peer review sheet you received.
