Andy Griffith Show info

small town southern sheriff in Mayberry, NC

different becasue he was single father at the time- a widower.

only had 1 african american role on show

producers/writers of show left this out b/c not to alienate sponsors, everything was perfect in Mayberry.

had alot riding on the show- felt they couldn't really deal with civil rights movement in a 30 mn. show- just wanted it to b a show people could escape to.

I Love Lucy show

Dezi Arnez- from Cuba, communist country

was considered suspect just because of that

His relationship with Lucille Ball was interracial.

What was considered acceptable to show on TV--

had to show 2 twin beds in bedroom

not able to show her being pregnant- wasn't acceptable

moved to the suburbs in the show

Role of women- Lucy's job was a housewife, always trying some scheme to get into show business. not happy being just a housewife.

failed to break out of that role each week, and the show emphasized on that.
