Bertolini,A., Polini, A.(2009). SOA Test Governance: Enabling Service Integration Testing across Organization and Technology Borders. Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops, 2009. ICSTW '09. http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/4976397/.

The intent of this paper is to support idea that the establishment of a test governance framework is a key issue for enabling SOA testing at integration and system levels. The framework would include a series of testing approaches. In their introduction they state that for SOA interoperability to be successful it is imperative to have a robust set of governing rules and procedures. The paper continues to go in to a perhaps unnecessary detailed section on what SOA governance is before getting into the meat of why it is really needed. They achieve this by presenting a table which lists the roles and activities for each stakeholder in the governance framework they would propose.

Section 4 queries how test governance can be managed. The testing process would include four main layers;

1. Organizational Test Policy. This includes scope, regulation and objectives.

2. Organizational Test Strategy. The policy defined at stage 1 becomes a strategic plan.

3. Project Test Management Level. The project makes plans for a particular project, staffing levels, scheduling.

4. Test Levels. Regulates variances in testing at different levels.

They conclude by stating that the need for service integration testing has never been formalised before. I would need to do some more research before accepting the validity of that claim. However they did put forward a good argument for the delivery of a more stringent and standardised testing process than they had currently found in use. They propose to conduct further research into refining the definition of service integration testing and pursue any other neglected features of current processes.-------------------

-----------------

This document defines SOA governance and its relationships between Business IT, and EA governance which assists organisations in understanding the impact that the introduction of SOA into an organisation has on governance.

governaceSOA

It specifies the governance regimes and capturing best practise as a basis for common approach. To me it’s the most detailed version document on governance with a strong detail of almost 83 pages. It holds some very good tables of principles that govern SOA with its description breakout and rational meanings.

It describes the SOA governance begins with the alignment to Business, IT, and EA governance. The governance processes include planning, design, and operational aspects of SOA.

governance process

The paper describes and holds a great learner table regarding the governance key roles and responsibilities.Contains a very effective description of the governance activities impacted by SOA and best practising rules and there actives very well. Overall a very strong qualitative paper on SOA governance.
