Citations and Format

Assignment 2 consists of further refinement of the references, development of the bibliography, and
submission of the (essentially) completed reference list for the paper. The assignment deals with
searches, sources, and citations.
The search should include several data bases, and selection of data bases known to be associated with
the field of interest. See the Berkeley web site listed below and in assignment 1 (Topics) for more
information on conducting a search.
A paper based on abstracts is not a scholarly work. Reading other people’s summaries of research
papers may be helpful, but does not lead to the depth of knowledge and understanding expected in a
scholarly work.
Judgment must be applied when determining upon which sources to base the paper and cite as
references. Articles from refereed journals are more respected than those from popular publications
aimed at the general public.
As you read the sources resulting from your search, be sure to record the citations in the correct format.
It will save time if you record all needed information once, rather than going back later. To insure you
are collecting the needed information, consult the APA Publication Manual (6 th
edition), pp 169-192, and
for examples, pp 193-224.
