THE THEME OF SPIRITUALITY

It has been a continuing trend in the art world for artists to use the spiritual theme in efforts to translate it into images and bring their own view of the pictures concept. The spiritual theme is used by artists to directly express thoughts, experiences, reflections ,feelings and the artists state of mind at the time of making the work of art. It is for these reason and the reason of the depth and scope of the artists communication ,that the work of arts that are oriented on the theme of spirituality have been viewed as the most interesting pieces of art.

THE THEME OF SPIRITUALITY

The theme of spirituality interest me for the sole reason that it is one of the works of art that demands more than the usual elements of art. Its communication process is not just oriented upon the required elements that are required for the usual works of art.

Art Appreciation Gallery: Gallery Piece Descriptions Background

The theme of spirituality is as old as the work of art ,as human beings are known to have been religious from the beginning of creation. The art pieces feared in my section II PowerPoint is one of the many pieces of artwork that are aligned to the theme of spirituality. It a reflection of the continued devotion to the virgin Mary between the period of 14th and 18th century reflecting upon the presence of divinity.

The Garden of Earthly Delights artwork is of about the same period that is 14th and 15th century. It is said to be one of the most complicated piece of work .And represents a mimic of the Garden of Eden , a reflection of earthly delights and hell(The Artist,2016).

Background

The Concourse Of The Birds is also a piece of work that I reflected upon on the PowerPoint. A production of the XVI century that is a representation of the Islamic culture under the illustration of the mystical poem. With the use of landscapes and birds to represent nature and spirituality.

Bacchus and Ariadne is another piece of art that is of the 15th century. A depiction of love ,women and spirituality. It is a piece of work that is a prominent Italian painting. A depiction of King Meno’s of Crete daughter left by her lover Theseus in an island and depicts how Bacchus the god of grape harvest is trying to save her from a probable death.

Background

The fifth piece of artwork that has been presented in the PowerPoint is spiritually themed work of art by Fredrick. A work that was done in the 19th century representing the transfiguration of Christ, represented in bold colors and brushworks.

Lastly , in the PowerPoint we have another piece of artwork done by Fredrick also in the 19th century ,it’s a collection of art pieces representing the work of Christ that has been synthesized on numerous concerns that include theology, cultural and painterly.

Art Appreciation Gallery: Visual Elements

The visual elements visible in the Coronation of the Virgin artwork color as a symbol realistic reflection ,in the use of blue rather than the normal gold, the perspective used in the artwork depicts the choice of low-view point creating numerous tiers that are not obstructive to one another. While the use of markings of central axis with the holding of the oil jars by Mary( Web Gallery of Art).

The visual elements that are visible in the Bacchus and Ariadne artwork is the behavior shapes whereby the artist composition has made use of two triangles which is a portrayal of movement that the two lovers are caught into..

The visual elements of The Garden of Earthly Delights are the use of lines to clearly separate the different contrasting images in the work ,contrasted by different shades of color to show there clears differences in shades that contrast each other in terms of color depth.

Art Appreciation Gallery: Visual Elements

The visual elements employed in The Concourse Of The Birds artwork involves the use of lightness and darkness color tone to reflect the images sense of depth and distance ,tranquility of the atmosphere and most of all the use of angles and shapes to highlight the images perspective.

The Ascension artwork uses color to as a symbol of the sky, to depict movement of Christ in the sky's and also reflect the natural patterns of the clouds ,land and depict the image of people.

Art Appreciation Gallery: Principles of Design

The Coronation of the Virgin artwork principles of design shows its hierarchical scale is indicative of the relative importance placed on the image of the Virgin that is bigger in shape. It also reflects the symmetry either sides to the central axis .with the whole artwork is balanced.

Art Appreciation Gallery: Principles of Design

The Garden of Earthly Delights artwork is designed in relieved symmetry for the sides represent different aspects but of similar nature. With its visual weight placed on the center panel of the image ,enjoined in a form of opposite of unity and dynamic tensions.

Art Appreciation Gallery: Principles of Design

Bacchus and Ariadne artwork principle of design is based on movement ,as the viewers eye is largely directed by the images visual design ,to the dominant element of the image that is elements relating to Bacchus and Ariadne .

Art Appreciation Gallery: Principles of Design

The Ascension and The Life of Christ Altarpiece artworks employ the principle of design that is oriented highly on harmony and variety ,as elements within the works are repetitive and their varieties have been used to offer the contrast. They have largely made the use of the arrays of color and texture in efforts to create the contrasts and variety(Christina Renfer Vogel,2012).
