Measurable/defined Metric
The purpose of the following research study project is to analyze the impact of alcohol on road accidents and deaths/injuries resulting from the same. The study will analyze data on the road accidents that occurred in the recent past and the causes that resulted to the accidents. It will also analyze data on the deaths and injuries caused by road accidents, and the factors that resulted to the accidents. Consequently, the study will enable us determine the causal relationship between driving while drunk and deaths and injuries caused by road accidents as a result. The relationship will compare deaths and injuries caused by road accidents when a driver is drunk and when the driver is not drunk (Malin, 2011).
Attainability
Although research works involve huge costs and require a lot of commitments, the study will apply the advanced technology to implement it efficiently. The data will be gathered from traffic report system that documents reported vehicle accidents. The study will focus on analysis of deaths and injuries resulting from alcoholic driving within the United States, which will reduce the complexities involved in gathering data from foreign countries. It will also be possible through application of current communication technologies such as Whats App, Facebook, and Websites. The study will utilize online sources to collect data on the topic, which will further reduce the costs and save time. The quantitative data will facilitate use of parametric tests to analyze data and come up with valid and accurate results.
Timeframe
The project will be designed and implemented in consideration with the various limitations, which includes time. The cases where victim blood require testing to determine the level of alcohol taken, the changes in BAC a as alcohol is metabolized and digested must be considered. The time taken after an accident to the time the alcohol test is taken will significantly impact on the accuracy of the data to be gathered. The region to be tested has a time limit on alcohol testing of 7 days.
Realistic Objective
The project requires affordable resources and methodological complexities that can be handled effectively. Alcohol testing requires a maximum of 5 minutes to determine the level of alcohol taken by an individual. It will involve a relatively small sample size that can be implemented at a cheaper cost without compromising the accuracy of the research findings. The drivers and pedestrians to participate in the study will be within the region, which will reduce the costs and complexities involved in conducting research studies internationally. Additionally, the study will utilize information from government informants such as transportation agencies.
Specific Goals that Define the Objective
The accuracy of the estimates of involvement of alcohol in road accidents will be dependent on the extent to which they will be free of bias. The study will involve a considerably large sample size of the drivers and pedestrians to be tested. This will reduce the degree of biases in the testing and analysis. The design and implementation of the research study will focus on minimizing the biases; in order to improve accuracy of the estimates (Wagenaar, 2013). The percentage of drivers tested on driving under the influence of alcohol will determine the extent of biases in the analysis.
The reported levels of alcohol involvements in road accidents and deaths and injuries resulting from the same will enable comparison between driving under alcohol and driving while somber. The differences in the involvement rates among states will also determine the differences in the testing rates. The highest involvement rates are found in states with highest testing rates. The outcome will be defined by the percentage of drivers to be tested in every states, as well as BAC of an individual state. It will also be dependent on the definition of alcohol involvement, which varies from state to state (Schweighofer, 2014).
Comparability of Statistics
In order to increase probability of comparability of statistics, the project will implement various suggestions:
1. The maximum legal BAC limit will be assumed to be .05.
2. The proportion of alcohol test findings in national databases will be increased.
3. Establish of a common definition of driving and drinking.
4. Implementation of adjustment procedures to address missing values
Project Objective
The objective of this research study is to examine the relationship between alcohol and deaths/injuries resulting from road accidents. Road accidents have claimed lives of numerous people across the globe. It is thus the high time that the society wakes up and addresses the challenge. Driver and pedestrians who use roads while drunk usually cause accidents because of their impaired reasoning. In order to address the problem, this study will examine the relationship between alcohol involvement and deaths/injuries caused by road accidents. It will analyze data on alcohol involvement among driver and pedestrians involved in road accidents, in order to determine causality relationship (Epstein, 2013).
Project Scope
The project will involve collection and analysis of data on road accidents that have caused injuries and deaths, within the American region. The project duration will be six months, starting on 2nd September, 2016, and expected to end on 31st February, 2017. The sources of data will include government agencies’ databases, university materials, security databases, and relevant past studies. The research study will involve 500 drivers and pedestrians to be tested on alcohol involvement. It will utilize quantitative research methodologies to analyze the data collected and interpret to obtain reliable conclusions.
