Mathematics is present in all professions. Sometimes this presence is obvious; however, math might be so embedded in the processes associated with the tasks performed that we might miss it altogether. During this month you will take a look at math and how it is used within Full Sail careers.

Welcome to the first of three parts of your final research assignment this month! To better guide you this month and allow you freedom to explore math in your areas of study, we have created a two-step process to help you format the first part your math project this month.

Step 1: You will choose three concepts from the concept list provided in this assignment. Your concept selections can be from any of the four schools at Full Sail (Audio, Art, Games, and Business). We encourage you to choose concepts from your own program of study, but you can venture to other areas if you would like to expand beyond your chosen field of study (as long as they pertain to a Full Sail field of study).

Step 2: You will conduct research for real-world applications on each of your selected concepts and submit your work on the assignment's discussion board. Please refer to the discussion requirements below to ensure all of selected concepts meet the assignment's expectations. We have included an example you can use to format the concept applications. You can contact your instructor if further clarification is needed.

Discussion Requirements:

1. State the field of study and the applied concept name (this must be done for each of three selected concepts).

2. Discuss the relevance of the math for each concept. The relevance should be expressed in your own words and discussed with a minimum of 100 words.

3. Include an applicable math formula for each concept. The formulas must mention what all included variables represent.

4. Construct a math word problem for each of your selected concepts. The word problems should be solved using the math formula associated with each concept.

5. Show all the steps to reach the solution of the problems. Be sure to include all appropriate units for your entered values and solutions.

6. All sources must be cited in APA format. You may use websites such as:

7. No spelling errors or grammatical errors should be present. This should be a college-level submission that looks professional and reflects your ability to understand logical relationships and facts.

The example below is exactly how each of your conceptual applications should be formatted.

Example:

Field of study: Film

Math application: Speed

Relevance: Every single production in the film industry has its own tools, which are always combined in order to create awesome movies. When a movie is being recorded, besides the cameraperson who is holding the camera and following the actors, the dolly shot is a commonly used method. This method consists on setting the track where the camera is going to be displaced. When the actors are going to have quick movements, the camera could shoot the smoothest footage possible. Therefore, camera displacement speed is an important factor that is going to help the camera people and the director of photography to determine how fast they have to move the camera depending on the actors' movements and the type of shots they want to capture.

Math formula: S = D / T

S: Average speed

D: Distance traveled

T: Time of travel

Example: A production at Full Sail is shooting a movie in one of the sound stages. The main actor has to run from the door to the nearest window in 4 seconds. If the window is 5 meters away from the door, how fast the cameraperson must displace the camera on the track in order to get the best shot?

S = D / T

S = 5 m / 4 s

S = 1.25 m/s
