Introduction
There exists a great challenge in provision of continuous improvement to children supported in Non Profit Organization institutions (Greenwald, 2013). These challenges arise due to ethical issues within the institutions whereby the children who are supposed to be receiving the necessary care are negatively affected by the actions of their care takers. Families first demonstrate the exercise of unethical service delivery in various ways.
Statement of the problem
The study aims at addressing on reported cases of child sexual assault as well as rape within the Families First children care. Therefore, the home did not sufficiently achieve its role in providing care and protection to the children within its care (Greenwald, 2013). A scenario involving the assault cases occurred to 11-year old child who experienced sexual assault and rape inflicted by 13 and 14 year-old boys. Moreover, on the same day, another incident was reported involving another minor of 11 years of age who was assaulted in the presence of other four children who provided assistance in the assault process (Robinson, 2006). Furthermore, a case of a male non-resident of the facility met with a minor of 13 years of age who was at a local park, he provided the teenager with alcohol after which he therefore sexually assaulted her at a local hotel. This incident of sexual abuse occurred on several occasions.
Significance of the study
The staffs of the residence are meant to carry out supervision within the healthcare at all time, however, the occurrence of the incident portray the institutions failure to carry out its roles effectively. This is demonstrated by the teens left the facility without supervision, while the organizations personnel should be focusing on delivery of its psychiatric treatment service to the patients within the facility all the time. Additionally, illegal activities is also an issue within the facility, thus, cases such as shoplifting, theft as well as fighting are some of the unethical issues manifested within the facility (Robinson, 2006).
The approach of management by the facility’s staff is thus an issue of concern, the mechanism of their operation hence demonstrates unethical behavior in the way of the institutions functionality. Additionally, unethical conduct within the facility is manifested by the lack of responsiveness by the home care personnel. There was no report concerning missing patients within the facility (Greenwald, 2013). Besides, cases of poor handing of the patients occur as demonstrated by improper restraining of patients leading to scenarios whereby the victim breaks hands are broken, while false information was provided in the process of treatment to the victim. Also, the staff disrespects the kids, hence demonstrating a negative attitude.
The facilities administrators Andrew Meyer and Gordon Richardson further failed to ensure institutions compliance with their established plan of operation as well as its emergency interventions plans. They further failed in establishing mechanism to handle run away issues within the health care.
Method of study
The approach of information gathering results from cases of reports to the police concerning assault, more than 500 calls have been received addressing on the issues of unethical behavior relation to Families First facility (Robinson, 2006). Besides, this also includes cases of runaways. The past incidences from the facility therefore provide statistical information concerning the institutions unethical operations. Moreover, witnesses provide information concerning children abuse in the institution. Furthermore, California Department of social services possess licensing reports which manifest addressed complains affecting the facility.
Findings
The institutions administration handled the case of sexual assault by removing the children accused from the facility. Moreover, additionally, the assistance of additional staff sought, with the objective of ensuring utmost level of safety and care is in place (Greenwald, 2013). Moreover, daily monitoring has been established to ensure cases of unethical conduct is managed within the healthcare. Those lacking proper care approaches while handing the patients had to be subjected for further training in order to improve their operations and service delivery within the facility.
Summary
Therefore, among the institutions lack of responsibility in its operations principles arise due to its failure to ensure the availability of adequate as well as competent staff consequently contributing to poor supervision within the facility thus endangering the children safety due to lack of compliance in adhering to the set regulations within the institution (Greenwald, 2013). Besides, the staff lacked adequate training to enable them use non-physical interventions as corrective approach while handling the patients.
Recommendation
The facility program plays a great role in the society as the services provided are very essential. However, the unethical code of conduct is an issue of concern regarding its approach to services delivery to the consumers. Nonetheless, continuous occurrences of unethical code of conduct may result in its closure. For the facility to continue in its service delivery, it’s recommendable for facility to;
• Dismiss all the staff who demonstrate brutal behavioral while handling the minors and employ competent professionals,
• The Families First facility should comply with all its objective in their service delivery to the society,
• Guidance and counseling professional should be employed within the service,
• The facility should review its operations approaches ensuring that there exist constant monitoring of the within the facility.
• Those who violate the facilities ethical guidelines should face the authority.
