Stakeholders

Sam Ryder is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and chairman of the board, for TopGear Corporation (TGC), he is also the founder. Sam graduated from the #1 ranked MBA program in the country. Sam served as a vice President and a senior engineer at another company for many years before starting up his own company in 1994 along with his wife Gloria Ryder. Sam is a project sponsor with a high level of influence and holds the responsibility of funding and overseeing the end product for this project.

Gloria Ryder is the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) had has been since it was founded. Gloria also graduated from the #1 ranked MBA program in the country and brings a lot of corporate experience to the business. Gloria also is a project sponsor with a high level of influence and holds the responsibility of funding and overseeing the end product for this project.

Project Manager

Jim Young currently serves as a multi departmental supervisor. Prior to this role he worked as an electrical engineer for the company. He has worked as team lead on several development projects and helped to innovate some of the company’s existing devices. With a high level of influence and company knowledge, Jim will be the Project Manager for this project with the responsibility of managing the Time, Cost and Schedule to deliver a quality product.

Project Team Members

Shannon Foreman have worked as an associate project manager for an engineer firm on the West Cost for many years prior to working at TGC. I have worked on many different projects and have become familiar with project management process, terms, methodologies, tools and techniques. I have earned several certifications relating to project management and have an MBA in logistics. I will also hold a high level of influence and responsibility working as an assistant to Jim Young.

Jerry Lawson has 6 years with the company and will be an internal team member, he has a MS degree in computer science and several IT certifications. Jerry will be responsible for overseeing the programming and software aspects and assisting with IT development.

Sara Jenkins has been with the company 4 years. As an internal team member Sara has a MBA and a BS in electrical engineering. She also has several years of procurement and acquisition experience. Sara will have a mid-level of influence as she will be responsible for assisting with electrical design, product cost analysis and acquiring raw materials.

Melissa Grant has been with the company 6 years. As an internal team member she holds a MSM in project management and a BS in electrical engineering. With experience in business analysis, quality assurance, and risk management. Melissa will have a mid-level of influence as she will be responsible for overseeing the electrical design and functionality of the product and it’s compatibility with existing products and systems.

Mike Green has been with the company for 5 years as a technician with public relations and marketing experience. He has done a lot of hands-on electrical work and testing. He has a MBA in Marketing and two undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and IT management. Mike will have a mid-level of influence as she will be responsible for overseeing product marketing and product testing.

PROJECT CHARTER PURPOSE

The purpose for this charter is to develop a new specialized Global Positioning System (GPS) device for cargo and ticket scanning system that can be used for both ships and trains. The GPS device should have a stronger signal, portable, durable and cheaper than competitors.

PROJECT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

It is because of the complexity of this project and the type of product required that the corporation appointed Jim Young, a rising start at the TGC Company to take up the lead role. He is supposed to lead a team of five people from different departments to create a prototype for the new GPS cargo tracking system device.

Among the five members, 2 are men, and the three are women. Among the five members, the team is privileged to have Sam Ryder, who is the founding father of the company but also the current chairman of the board and the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Also, another member is Gloria who is the serving Chief Financial Officer (CFO). And the other three are professionals who serve in various departments within the TGC Company.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Due to the increased competition in the manufacturing of safety devices and electronic equipment for cargo ships and trains from other new companies in the market, TGC has come up with the idea to come up with a new product that will make it different and thus be able to get out of the existing competition.

The new product is a new GPS cargo tracking system device that can be used for both ships and trains. The advantage about this new product is that it is just like the other safety devices, but the differencing feature that it has is that of having a strong signal which will enable easy tracking of the assigned cargo.

Other beneficial accomplishments that it has are that the new devices will not only be cheaper but will be durable and portable something designed to attract many of the target markets because the existing devices are not that good. One aspect designed to catch the attention of many is the price that the device will be trading it. It is expected to be less expensive than the existing market devices.

This cheap aspect is bound to be pocket-friendly for those who desire to invest in the product.

PROJECT SCOPE

The new product to be designed, a GPS cargo tracking system device, is meant to serve various purposes;

One it is meant to enable easy tracking of cargo that which is being transported by ship or train. It is meant to enable the sender to keep track of the cargo while on transit to help ensure that the designated cargo reaches its destination.

It is also meant to help the TGC Company be able to counter the stiff competition that it faces in recent times from other companies. This product is designed to keep the company's relevance in the market and also help the company raise some little revenue from it.

The new product is also meant to give a new phase to the cargo and electronic devices being produced it is meant to display the exemplary performance and expertise that the company has in its works. A move meant to earn the company more sales in its already existing products.
