The tutorial assessment each week is generally based on your understanding of the week’s course content and group interaction in discussing your answers.

ASSESSABLE TASKS OF THE WEEK The tutorial tasks for this week will help you to develop more understanding of making business decisions in regards to computer hardware and software. . The due date for providing answers to this week’s tutorial tasks is Wednesday, Week 2. Submit your answer using Moodle by its due date. On-campus students make sure to take with you a printed copy of your answers to the tutorial session.

Before attempting the following tutorial activities, you need to learn this week’s lecture slides first. To gain more understanding of the topics covered in this week’s lecture read Chapter 5, pp. 204-229 of your textbook. Case Study 1: Amazon’s Kindle e-reader

Read Textbook, pp. 202-203 and answer the followings.

1. Will e-books, as read on a Kindle or other e-reader, eventually phase out the conventional print book? Why or why not?

2. Kindle is designed just for reading. Other tablet computers such as the Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy can perform all the other functions of a computer in addition to being an e-reader. Is there room for both in the market?

Case Study 2: Softsource: Building green and staying ahead

Read Textbook, pp. 230-231 and answer the followings.

1. What do you understand by carbon footprint and how can IT play a role in reducing carbon footprints?

2. What is Green IT? What are the benefits of Green IT?

3. How did Softsource benefit from introducing its green IT data centre?

4. What are the main drivers that motivate organisations to adopt Green IT? What was the driver for Softsource to adopt Green IT?

5. What was the approach used by Softsource to adopt Green IT?
