Microsoft Word offers many excellent options to ensure that your work has correct spelling and grammar. It gives me extra piece of mind to know that my work is being checked beyond what I see. I have worked on some projects so long that it all starts to blend together and it is easy to miss small mistakes that Word is able to catch for you.

The ability to send a document to a coworker to read and then comment on or add suggestions and remove incorrect information is so valuable. It has been cleaned up in 2013 and seems to be so much easier to utilize than in previous versions. Too often it has seemed like it would just be easier to print your work to pass around to a co-worker., The co-worker then marks any changes on the document with red pen and then you get it back eventually and then have to make all of the changes. It saves so much time to have the comments on the document you are using and then be able to accept or decline changes as you see fit.

I would be most excited to utilize the Simple Markup view of Word 2013. Being able to have input from multiple people all on the same document and in a clear and organized way would be so helpful. Also, being able to track any and all changes that have been made to the document, just in case minds are changed. It all is available to see without many different versions of the same document needing to be saved.

Mostly everything in this week’s lesson was new to me on editing and revising documents. I did not know that Word allowed you to compare your revised document to the original and even combine two versions of a document together. I also did not know about all the features that allow you to work on a document collaboratively with other people. I’ve only seen comments used by professors when grading my papers but I never put much thought into how this was done. These features would be great for productivity in the business environment. Instead of having several people working on separate documents and then compiling them together to create an end product, Word allows you to create one document and track what each person is adding and changing. This saves a lot of time in the end since everyone is working on what will be the final product from the start. I really liked the ability to accept and reject changes as well. I could utilize this at my job when working with Standard Operating Procedures. We could allow employees to make necessary changes to the documents since they are the ones actively doing the job. However, as the supervisor, you can review and verify the changes are accurate and comply with the regulations. The find and replace tool is something I am familiar with using. I use it a lot to get to the information I want in a large document without wasting time scrolling and searching. I definitely want to try to incorporate using comments and a shared document within my department or different committees at my job.
