The purpose of this assessment is to help you determine whether you have a clear understanding of graphs
of inverse trigonometric functions.
1. Using the triangle above, find the exact value of the following:
a. sin (θ)
b. cos (θ)
c. tan (θ)
d. cot (θ)
e. sec (θ)
2. Evaluate the following: sin (sin–1(1/2) + sin–1(5/13)).
3. Using the results for question 1 above, let x = 12 and y = 9. Evaluate sin (θ) – tan (θ).
4. Find the angle of elevation from the point on the ground 100 feet from the base of a building that is 250
feet tall.
5. Find the following:
a. sin – 1(sin(3π/4))
b. cos – 1(cos(5π/4))
c. sin – 1(sin(π/4))
d. cos – 1(cos(π/6))
e. For the results in a, b, c, and d, where the inverse cannot be directly applied, explain why this is
so.
