Strengths 1. Recognized strengths on my unit are physician and nurse relationships and leadership and staff nurse relationships and high physician satisfaction. 2. My unit allows for relationships to be built and nurtured and allows for staff input and feedback. 3. A unique resource that our unit has is that part of leadership was promoted within the department. 4. Other companies consider our unit’s tightness or family atmosphere as a strength as well as the nurse-physician relationships. |
Weaknesses 1. Recognized weaknesses in my area include physicians ordering discharges late, physicians taking longer than 10 minutes to return their pages, low nurse engagement and low Press Ganey scores.
2. The competitors in my area have higher Press Ganey scores, faster response times to patient needs, higher employee engagement.
3. Areas that can be improved are nurse engagement, Press Ganey scores, discharge times, times in which physicians return pages decrease. 4. What do other companies consider to be your weakness? Other companies consider the following weaknesses: Press Ganey scores and staff engagement. |

Opportunities 1. Conditions that impact the company in a positive way are nurse-physician relationships, staff-staff relationships and leadership-staff relationships. 2. Opportunities that exist are earlier discharge times so that patients get home, to rehab or skilled nursing facilities sooner, improved responsiveness times to patient needs, improved employee engagement. |
Threats 1. Conditions that impact in a negative way are higher nurse to patient ratios due to open positions not filled, increased hospital censuses and poor patient outcomes. 2. Competitors in the area are offering sign-on bonuses to increase hospital staffing, offering incentives to physicians for seeing the patients that are to be discharged first. 3. My unit does not have adequate financial support.
4. The impact that our weakness has on the threats is poor patient outcomes. |
