History paper
HIST 1493
Final Exam
You will write ONE essay.
The exam is worth 100 points.
Essay must be typed. Times New Roman 12-point font. Double spaced.
Essay should be at least 500 words.
Essay must be submitted as a Word document to the D2L Dropbox: Final Exam by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, August 1st. Late or emailed essays will not be accepted.
Successful essays will:
· Address all portions of the prompt.
· Have a clearly stated thesis/argument: A thesis statement is not a restatement of the topic/question. It is a specific claim that you will pursue in the essay and that the evidence that you present will support. The thesis could be something such as: “The three most important themes are ________, ________, and________. They are the most important because __________.”
· Defend the thesis with precise historical evidence ( specific facts from the text ).
· Be well organized.
· Regarding citations, if you are only using the textbook (which is totally fine), just cite at the end of the sentence -- parenthetically by author’s last name and page number—for example (Foner 325). If you use other resources in addition to the textbook, use the citation style you know the best. Be sure to provide complete information for any sources other than the textbook.
· Essays that do not adhere to these requirements can earn no higher than a ‘B.’
The Prompt:
What are the three most important concepts/themes you learned about this semester? Use precise evidence/examples to illustrate each theme. Why are these three concepts important to an educated citizenry?
