Flynn, C. B., Smither, J. W., & Walker, A. G. (2015). Exploring the relationship between leaders’ core self-evaluations and subordinates’ perceptions of servant leadership: A field study. Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies . doi: 10.1177/1548051815621257 Comment by Reviewer : Missing volume, issue, page number.
The researchers examined developments in servant leadership theories and how they are likely to impact on future knowledge in the study. In effect, they also looked at core self-evaluations to determine how it relates to leader competency in diverse settings. For this reason, this paper highlights ways a leader can set standards, which can be emulated by the people he leads in a particular professional setting. Thus, core self-evaluation allows a leader to understand himself concerning the level of performance he aspires to attain.
Through the article, the researchers demonstrated the existence of a critical component of modern management, which requires leaders to be humble and show more dedication to their organizations. Herewith, it is crucial for a leader to have good relationships with those under him to enable him achieve positive results from what he does effectively (Flynn, Smither & Walker, 2015). Moreover, by evaluating his abilities and emotional competence, a leader has a better chance of creating a positive environment in the organization that allows his subordinates to realize their potential. Therefore, this research shows that servant leadership reinforces the trust of subordinates in a leader’s capability encouraging them to use their skills to achieve positive outcomes. Comment by Reviewer : For Paragraph 2: Paper provides a critique of the source, addressing both its good and bad qualities, but does not cover all important aspects of the source (e.g., might be missing a critique of the methods, designs, framework, or conclusions).
The findings highlighted in this research can be applied in modern management settings where leaders are expected to have an active character that transforms the overall thinking of their subordinates. In this regard, it is important for all managers to create shared understanding with their subordinates to make them have a positive perception towards various roles they perform. As a result, when leaders share an understanding with their subordinates enables an organization to surpass its targets within specific timelines leading to high-quality outcomes being realized from different functions in the long run (Flynn, Smither & Walker, 2015). Comment by Reviewer : For Paragraph 3: Paper provides a justification for how the source is applicable to one’s research, but there is some uncertainty about how the source provides a framework for one’s research (e.g., the connection between the source’s method, framework, or conclusions to one’s research is not clear). Comment by Reviewer : There should be no inclusion of citations or cited materials in the AB.
