The assessment task is due on the date specified by your assessor. Any variations to this arrangement must be approved in writing by your assessor.
Submit this document with any required evidence attached. See specifications below for details.
Performance objective
This task requires you to identify and measure resource use in your work role. You will also improve efficiency in a chosen work task.
Assessment description
Part of your role in a workplace will involve identifying environmental and resource efficiency issues and finding opportunities to improve on these.
For this task, you will need to identify a workplace where you can monitor resource usage and issues. This workplace could be your workplace or another workplace as approved by your assessor. In the first part of the task, you will identify resources used and assess their environmental impact. In the second part of this task, you will measure usage of resources in the workplace.
You may complete this task individually or as a team, but you must submit your documents individually.
Note that you will use the results of this task to complete Assessment Task 3.
Procedure
There are two parts to this task. If you are currently working in a job role, it is preferable to complete this task in your workplace. If you are not in the workforce, you may complete this task at a workplace, at your training organisation or in a simulated environment as agreed with your assessor. You will need to discuss this with your assessor before you complete the task.
Part A
You will need to choose an environment where you carry out particular procedures or duties on a regular basis. Preferably this will be your workplace, but could be your training environment or other simulated workplace environment as agreed with the assessor. For this part of the assessment task you are required to:
1. Identify two key procedures or duties that you are commonly required to do. Confirm this with your assessor to make sure it is appropriate for the assessment task.
2. Develop a process map for each of these processes and identify the resources used and wastes generated for each of the processes:
a. List the resources that you use in the resource identification table (attached).
b. List one resource per row as well as the waste and environmental and legal impacts that are caused by using the resource (where appropriate).
Part B
You are required to:
1. Select two or more key resources used in your workplace (or simulated environment). These resources could include:
a. water
b. electricity
c. gas
d. photocopier/printer paper
e. chemicals (cleaning agents or others).
2. Identify an accurate method of measuring or calculating usage of each resource. Collect resource use efficiency procedures and relevant metrics and targets.
|
For example: gas, water and electricity each have a meter on the premises. Paper could be measured by weight or by number of sheets/reams used. You may need to discuss other measurement/calculation ideas with your assessor. |
3. Complete a simple environmental monitoring activity by measuring the daily usage of the key resources for a period of three days. Record the daily amounts and totals in the environmental monitoring table (attached).
Note: Ensure you keep the work process and resource use information you gathered in this assessment task for use in Assessment Task 3.
Specifications
You must submit:
· two process maps
· resource use efficiency procedures and relevant metrics and targets
· a completed resource identification table
